Domain Expirations
I'm just wondering what the rules are on a domain. I've recently gone to a website and they claimed the domain hadn't been renewed. Can someone buy it if they don't renew in time?

1. yes
In fact, you can put a "reserve" on a domain name and if it expires or isn't renewed by the owner, you can then have first crack at it.

2. The domain goes into a "redemption period"
for 30 days I beleive, in which time the owner can pay the registraur a fee to get the domain back.

Some registraurs like http://www.godaddy.com , have a "Backorder" option available, so you can automatically snag a domain when it becomes available.
