"Military marches into NASCAR"
Sr. Master Sgt. Thomas Kichline sees "a tremendous amount of similarities" between NASCAR and the Air Force.

Both have high-powered vehicles run by highly efficient teams who can pack up and relocate in a hurry. But that's not why the Air Force sponsors Ricky Rudd's Nextel Cup team.

"It's our target market," said Kichline, the Air Force's superintendent of motorsports.

Hugely popular among young men, NASCAR has become a recruiting tool used by all the military services. The Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army all sponsor either Nextel Cup or Busch racing teams, blending in with the racing world's corporate staples of laundry detergents, cereals and beers. Ditto for the Coast Guard and Army National Guard.

I saw the above T-shirt for sale and in my search of the internets found this little blurb at "CNS.com"

Why liberals STILL don't get it...

The NASCAR crowd intrinsically realizes Saddam was a terrorist, understands Iraq is part of the bigger war on terror. In case you forgot (and judging by the voting totals, many in the Northeast did just that) they'll remind you the radical Muslims attacked us...not vice versa.

=====

Here we go again with this "the northeast is not patriotic" shit. Fine. Enjoy Iraq, "NASCAR Nation". I assume these recruitment events ar races is signing up fans by the score?

1. Nascar fans join the army?
Who the hell would watch Faux News if they're all in Iraq?

They're too busy calling the left weak.

2. You know what FUCK Nascar
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 07:06 PM by noahmijo
I'm not apologizing there are a few maybe liberal Nascar fans out there, but the sport itself is clearly targeted towards ignorant yahoos

As George Carlin once said "Watching Nascar is about as interesting as watching flies fuck"

Put these pansies in a hockey jersey or have em go round by round with a middleweight rookie see how tough they are.

14. I've never understud NASCAR
Just never have. I'd rather watch baseball or even basketball. It's so boring and also so dangerous. If I had a son or daughter and they wanted to get into NASCAR I'd try my damndest not to have them do it.

3. More Taxpayer Dollar Waste...
what freeper, bushbot moran would EVER put his life on the line "for our freedoms"? I don't know any!

~snip~

The newspaper reported that the Defense Department could not gauge the effectiveness of its advertising, including with NASCAR, even though the advertising budget almost doubled from 1998 to 2003, to $592 million.

That is exactly the point that the National Taxpayers Union has been trying to make.

"We have serious concerns that this type of recruiting expenditure won't pay off in an era when the Army needs to make every dollar count," Sepp said. "Clearly, having an Army logo emblazoned on a fast car is attractive to some people. Whether that translates into young people going to the recruiting station is a different question entirely."

5. Nascar events overdoses on rw patriotism
Hubby is a nascar fan and the few races he's gone to he's said they go way overboard with the patriotism. Flags, singing, jets, military presence, etc.

He doesn't go as much now because the over the top rw ferver just got too much for him. He prefers watching it on TV.

I called him and asked if he's seen any recruiting going on at these events....it's a no.

10. I stopped going a couple of years ago
I shouldn't say that because I will be going to one race in about a month, but this year it is driving down on race day and leaving after the race. Just not my crowd to hang with for a weekend.

The recruiters I've seen have been right next to credit card "giveaways", Skoal/Marlboro giveaways and other worthless crap. The recruiting never really stuck out.

I'm sure NASCAR (Administration) didn't ask the Army, Air FOrce, Guards, etc. to sponsor cars and come show up to recruit at races. Those groups thought it was a good way of advertising/recruiting.

I know a majority of fans are hillbilly/hicks whatever you want to group them as, but there are a lot that aren't. All coments about "target group" were from the Air Force not NASCAR. I guess I just get sick of all this Fuck NASCAR, especially in this case where they didn't even comment or promote. The Armed Forces took the oppurtunity to advertise and that's it (except the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, God Bless USA before the race, but I guess it pleases the rest of the crowd)

Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 07:32 PM by rocknation
and haven't forgotten that THEY attacked FIRST--why do they NEED to be recruited?

As for that NOLIBS T-shirt, it should be responded to with LUV W? ENLIST.

12. Jeff Gordon refused to go to the White House
Last year when the top 10 was invited and was the only top 10 driver (including Jr.) not to endorse Bush last year.

So I'd like Gordo before you like Jr.

9. Yet the Army still falls short of recruiting goals.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say that this is implying NASCAR fans are hypocritical cowards.

19. Its a perfect place for the Army to recruit
Country music and Nascar just love all things military. Lets see if they flock to the recruiting stations. Plenty of room, and chimpies war creates more gaps in the ranks every god damn day. Toby Keith can drop his music pick and pick up an M16. "Walkin' a post for Jesus!"

22. LOL
I was a 16 year old repuke (I was warped into them, didn't know better) when I started watching, I guess watching left turns every night and reading DU has put me where I belong.

:hippie:

Then again maybe it was having kids and realizing what really matters in life.
