I think people have stopped listening to Bush
Let me explain: A successful president uses the bully pulpit to rally support around his agenda, etc. And no one else in the opposition party can match that. But I believe Chimpy's horrible prime-time speech proved that more and more people are tuning him out. And when that happens, you're in BIG trouble. It's also hard to reverse it once voters start souring on you. That's why I think that U.N. speech will be a flop.

11. Me neither.
The voice and that face, I just want to put my fist through the screen. Its not worth the aggravation and he never says anything but "terra, taxcuts, terra, taxcuts" anyways.

3. Even if you tried your hardest
you couldn't get any meaning at all listening to Bush. Everything he says sounds like something someone told him to say, and he said it wrong.

And the contrast with the dems is SO striking. No way is he going to debate in 2004.

9. I can't see him debating in 2004 either!
I mean, I really can't imagine it! Ever since that "press conference" with Blair, when he was horrendous even by his President Stupid standards, I haven't been able to see him making it through the election.

No way does he have the legs for it, and he's too lazy and stupid to deal with the torrent of criticism he's going to get.

4. He's a liar, and everyone knows it...
no matter what their politics may be. Unless you are a dyed in the wool neocon, you know he's a liar and everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. Why listen?

Impeach him, send him to the ICC to be tried for war crimes, and let him be judged for what he is: a liar.

...what a great idea.

That's why I think that U.N. speech will be a flop.

I don't think we're the audience for the UN speech -- it's for foreign consumption. He can't get the boys & girls home in time to a.) salvage the election or b.) clean up after the next LIHOP, unless he gets serious international fig-leafage.

OTOH, if he does speak on sex-slavery -- and I think Ashcroft's using the Patriot act to chase pornographers was a trial baloon -- then the speech is for domestic consumption, and marks a return to the Culture Wars, conceding failure in the War Wars.

Either way, it will tell us a lot about how the Borg plan to fight the election.

8. You could be right about the culture tack
I don't know if it'll work. I think people might see it as a distraction from real issues like ... let's see ... the poor economy?

Dismal Bush Poll Numbers Traced to Disastrous Speech
Bush Complains that Questions were TOO HONEST!

Bush, whose aides say he eschews the nitty-gritty of politics, quibbled with the wording in one poll when he was asked about two polls that showed a majority of Americans opposed his $87 billion request to Congress. "If you look at the question, it's kind of a strange question," he said, in what sources called a reference to a question that told respondents how much spending Congress had already approved.

Story

Strange? Only if viewed through the prism of Bush's reflexively deceptive mindset.

That is, Bush believes it's "strange" to level with the American people by providing them additional, relevant facts, in this case about the amount already approved for Iraq, so that they are able to make a more informed judgment about an issue.

What else could be expected from a fraud who opted to deliberately withhold from the American people key facts about Iraq intelligence, in order to win their consent for an unnecessary war?

Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 probably sealed his fate. Stupido.

12. I think your correct Diplomats. I forced myself to watch the speech and
it was awful! It should have been a major speech and he looked like a scared kid reading from a Podium rather than relaxed and sincere behind a desk with pictures of Laura and a homey atmosphere.

They thought he would look tough standing there....but he looked pitiful and very wan. Sort of like the cartoon pix with the little chimp face and the big ears hiding in a big suit.

Unfortunately he only know how to be a "Swagger to the bar bully....or a frightened cowered, overmedicated kid" So, I guess tomorrow we get the "Bar Swagger." And it won't be appropriate....it will be embarrassing....I don't think he can pull it out or we would have seen more of him over the last two years....

Without his RW folks cheering him on.....he's lost......and the polls have probably really gotten to him....he 's gotta know.

13. Bush has jumped the shark
And once you do that, it's hard to jump back with any real conviction. He might try a casting change (VP) but that rarely works for long.

14. It's snowballing on these corrupt bastards
As long as they kept President Stupidhead's unlikely winning streak alive, he was okay. But the "16 words" gave way to "no WMDs" which gave way to "no connection between Saddam and 9/11" which gave way to "brother, can you spare $87 billion." Now, there's nowhere to stop this freight train, it's rolling downhill and gathering momentum.

Another war against Iran? Or Syria? Another "terrorist" attack? They don't have a real voluminous bag of tricks.

15. They never listened to him in the first place
If they had they would have realized he was full of shit long ago. They listen to the spin blurbs on teevee and their opinion is formed sheerly by propagandized recaps of his words
