Remember, LBJ's biggest contribution was setting up the groups to lobby for the poor. LBJ was a politician and as such he knew that you get things done by LOBBYING and to Lobby someone has to have an interest (and the finance interests to pay a profesional lobbyist). The poor can not do that so the Poor have always been shortchanged. That is why LBJ oppoosed increasing who received Welfare and the amount of Welfare people would get, but authored all of the programs to help people get out of proverty.

People bash LBJ mainly becasue they do NOT understand how Washington works. LBJ did, thus well the following cite is dismissive of LBJ (For that reason) if you get over THAT prejudice of the writer you get a good feel for the Great Society.

Also read the part involving Nixon, Nixon was a prisoner of the System LBJ created, and could not escape it. Nixon's plans, while authored in Nixon's adminstration was to the the long term effect of the groups whose power had been increased by the Great Society Program (and one of the reason Nixon hated those programs, for Nixon could not even try to gut them till AFTER the 1972 Election and LBJ's death in 1973.

5. You mean the abandoned STRIP Mine.

Where the plane hit the ground. Bush probally did it so the owner of the mine did not have to pay for reclamation of the property (Reclamation from the mining NOT the plane crash).
