Schiavo autopsy report to be released today
Schiavo autopsy report to be released today
By LISA GREENE, Times Staff Writer
Published June 15, 2005

Nearly 11 weeks after Terri Schiavo died, the Pinellas County medical examiner plans to release its report on her autopsy today.

The report could reveal further details of the extent of Schiavo's brain damage and whether there was any physical evidence she was abused.

Schiavo died March 31, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed. She spent 15 years in what most doctors diagnosed as a persistent vegetative state after her heart stopped for five minutes in 1990.

--
Dr. Jon Thogmartin, Pinellas-Pasco medical examiner, originally expected to release the report last month. But the release was delayed because a neuropathology report done by an outside expert took longer than expected, said Bill Pellan, director of investigations for the office.

1. Oh goody, just in time for the Downing Street Memo hearings.
Now the talking heads can debate endlessly about what Terri knew and when did she know it.

Much easier than having to take a hard look at the Bush Administration for its lies and distortions and at themselves for being a bunch of war struck boosters.

5. From the book description:
"And it's not over yet. Despite her death, the controversy lingers. In Silent Witness, former LAPD detective and New York Times bestselling author Mark Fuhrman applies his highly respected investigative skills to examine the medical evidence, legal case files, and police records."

12. Odd how he can write the definitive Schiavo book
even before the autopsy results were available – and without even interviewing anyone from the Schiavo side of the family. This book was spurred by Sean Hannity and the Schindler family.

6. Today we'll find out that...
Terry Schiavo was just a few aroma-therapy classes away from a full recovery and a normal, productive life. The right-wing-nuts will go batshit no matter what the report says, like they need any reason to go batshit at all. This will be covered ad nauseam until the end of the week. Another sigh of relief can be heard throughout the White House.

10. Funny how that works, isn't it?
Well, not funny funny - odd funny.

Oh, the blessings to be counted as they dodge another one???

Sorry, Clinton Tyree. Don't mean to take it out on you. I saw the headline this morning and thought, 'Why, of course. What better day than today?'

13. Nobody except her family should care-- or know-- about the results
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 08:40 AM by IanDB1
The IMPORTANT issue, IMHO, isn't how sick she was or if she should have been allowed to die.

The IMPORTANT issues were:

1) Why does a "pro-family" party that says "traditional marriage" between a man and a woman is "the cornerstone of civilization" constantly need to interfere in the affairs of "traditional" families?

2) Congress can not/should not go around passing new laws every time they disagree with a judge's ruling, which in this case is a strict, non-activist ruling. What's next? Tom DeLay gets arrested for DUI, so they pass a law to raise the Blood Alcohol Limit?

3) Judge after judge after judge-- all conservative Republican appointees-- all followed a strict interpretation of the law, precisely as it was written, and all reached the same non-activist conclusion. And now "Activist Lawmakers" in Washington want to thwart the will of the voters of Florida who passed that law, and trample on their State's Rights.

16. It's true that it's only her family's business,
but, in this case, her husband wanted the autopsy to help prove she had no chance of recovery and WANTS the results released - not that the numbskulls will accept it, but sensible people will.

saying what was in the autopsy and that they didn't find abuse. No?
