During Clinton's tenure, a president telling a lie was unacceptable, but now of course it's perfectly acceptable.

you can lie about going to war now too, and that's become largely accepted. that bush is an idiot walking is basically accepted now, and that he's fed words through a wire in his ear, something that would have been totally unacceptable previously.

the torture scandals came and went, and folks have accepted the fact that yes, we torture prisoners of war, but we've accepted the fact that all muslims got it comin'.

that bush knew about nine eleven coming for months and didn't feel compelled to warn anyone, or take steps to prevent it. then exploited our horror and grief like no other asshole before him, but, we've decided to accept it for the most part. we re-elected him supposedly, and we've accepted it.

the food in this restaurant just gets worse and worse until one day you look down and notice it's really shit in your plate.

1. It all goes back to human behavior - herd mentality, denial, etc...
BUt it seems that there is always a tipping point where the masses shift their understanding of what is possible, and what they will and will not accept...like the transition of the 1950's to the 1960's/70s... For some reason, though, we keep failing to learn our lessons and move on. We keep repeating history over and over, reacting and acting the same ways we did generations before us...

Think it might be a fatal flaw in the human species?
