the horror of the war is very effectively hidden away from us
you never see images of the carnage on television, just brief, acceptable images, but not the horrific ones. we as a society cannot bear to see such horror, and we surely don't want our children to see it either.

yet we pay for the horror. you'd think that we'd actually get to see the results, seeing as how we all more or less sanctioned it, by proxy. or at least be forced to gaze upon the horror occasionally to remind us that it is indeed real.

real death on a massive scale, produced by the very same people who bring you coca cola and kentucky fried chicken, and all of your t.v. programs and news, yet, we can't see it.

no dead iraqi children, or soldiers, or mothers and fathers laying in the street, or dead g.i.'s, or crippled ones, just the occasional surly, scary al qaeda operative.

surreal huh?

1. They did that with Viet Nam and it made the war very unpopular
They've learned since then

17. The Monk turning himself into a human torch
got my attention. I was in high school -- and living on a Navy base.

When I saw that image on TV -- I suddenly realized that the numbers had real human beings attached. Also, there was another side to the story.

3. You are right, last week, 5 marines one day, 4 soldiers a day or two
later - on page A14 and page A16 respectively.

4. three days of actual footage of the absolute carnage
would turn this nation around. my daughter did her senior project on the realities of the Iraq invasion and occupation, and was accused of getting the pictures from a different country.

5. As suppressed as it is, is still isn't suppressed enough to suit the rw
There are constant complaints and remarks at any opportunity by bush lovers that there is too much coverage of solders being killed. They claim that any mention of deaths is a political statement from the left.

11. It would be a hell of a lot more convenient to kill a lot
of people with a total absence of accountability, the ultimate dream of the bush administration.

8. Maybe someone should try to
get some ad time on television during primetime to remind the pro-war people what they love so much. Nah, that might turn that bunch on too much. They DO seem to have an odd sense of right and wrong, don't they? If children are taught to be in allegiance with the current philosophy that war is absoluttely essential like they say, maybe kids SHOULD be exposed. After all, our military is actively recruiting them to go do those things and get those things done to them...They should be informed.

12. Again, agreed. But why don't we also see pictures of...
The World trade center? I mean I have not seen a single picture or video of it in almost 4 years, it is like it has been expunged from American memory.

16. Then show me those pictures...
It is like America fell into a black hole, with no news of any sort and no memory of anything.

Bush has stolen our memories!

15. True
They should show both sides and question why one is considered right and one is considered wrong. They are both wrong. An eye for an eye leads to blindness, which our country seems all too willing to accept. I guess it's because in effect, most people are blind to reality.

14. I agree
I've seen photos too. I don't have kids, but if I did I wouldn't want them being told it's a holiday of some sort with benefits out the wazoo without seeing the reality first. They do need to be informed. People need to know what it really is...a bloodbath. And the innocent do get brutally killed and wounded including children.

18. I don't want my children to be trained to torture innocent people.
I raised them to be loving, not murdering butchers. Get us out of Iraq NOW!

20. That's why they should be informed so they won't
sign on that dotted line and go to Iraq... They need to know the horrors before they jump in with both feet.

23. They are really just children and don't know what is best for them...
Thats why they have us, their parents to tell them. Murder is never justified, and what they are doing in Iraq is murder plain and simple. I don't want my children to be murderers and I don't want my neighbors children to be murderers.

26. Agreed.
They should be informed so they won't let the recruiters tell them rosy stories about beaches and talk them into something hideous.

10. THe real news is out there, Check out French media sites and
the Germans are doing a great job of exposing our butchery. You just have to look for it.

Not one more dead baby for bushs oil buddies, not one more!

Support the troops? I support them long enough to get them to a war crimes trial.

21. What can you expect..
with the RR and Corporate America in control of our media? Babies and our own soldiers dying is not news, Michael Jackson and the runaway bride and what's up with Brad and Jen are news. We are not even allowed to view the flag draped coffins of those that gave their lives. I don't think a 24/7 live feed of these horrors is necessary, however keeping ALL negative aspects of the war away from Americans makes it easier for the majority to ignore it. And the fact that no one (Iraq, or America) yet is better off for us having gone there.

22. We'll See Plenty When They Release Those Additional Photos And Videos
at the end of the month (Thank you ACLU)!

Will American care? Doubt it.

Will "Zarqawi" immediately release another video of someone loosing their head? Since he is most likely CIA or CIA created, probably.

On the other hand, I assume these are worse as they are some of the thousands they refused to release!

I think you were dead on the other day when you noted that American knows it was lied to and does not give a shit! They do not care who gets killed as long as it is not someone close to them!
