Why do school-board fundies think God couldn't have created evolution? |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:16 PM by iconoclastic cat
I mean, seriously: do they think that He just wouldn't be up to it? That starting the ball rolling with amino acids was just too much hard work? Why do these boneheads think that God has to be as rigid and unimaginative as they are?

1. Because it doesn't say so at the beginning of the Bible. |
|
Notice how it's all Genesis and Leviticus.
They only get through the first parts.

You must be a liberal blasphemer! Repent, Blasphemer! Get thee to a Republican Party Headquarters and kneel before Ken Mehlman!
Oh wait, maybe that's not such a good idea. He does enjoy that sort of thing, you know.

The idea that a creator would create a system or a process like evolution, instead of discrete items like cows, dogs, etc., is probably too subtle and sublime for these literalists to understand.

Taught that both worked together or separately, your choice to decide. He taught evolution and then made us read genesis. There was a question on the final, how many kids did Adam and Eve have? Asked where all the rest of those folks came from, biblically it points to incest. Had to write an essay on both.

I think God and the great Elders of this universe created everything. They began it and then science just took over and went from there (like a garden for example).

16. I also believe that God started it, creating |
|
one of the most beautiful systems of nature that could possibly be thought of, the system we should be protecting. From there nature pretty much uses these laws of nature to determine events.
Not to cause a flame fight but to give you one of the reasons Christians question evolution is because of this question. Creation implies the beginning/first. So where did the matter that earth was evolved from come from? The creation theory posits an eternal all powerful God that can create an object simply by saying "Let there be." In this theory there is no question of the source of the matter when that God exists.
When I was in college we discussed maxi-evolution and mini-evolution. The latter is acceptable to many Christians because it does not place the "beginning" into question and accepts the mechanisms found in evolution such as natural selection.
Personally, who created what is not a big issue with me. I am more interested, as a Christian, in the main message of the Bible of redemption and forgiveness and sanctification (love).

For people of little faith, God is necessary to explain things that are unexplainable, God of the gaps. Thus, these people are fighting to maintain one such "gap." Apparently God making the incredibly complicated process of natural selection just isn't impressive enough for them.

they are right too. The seem to unable to deal with any questioning of their version of truth.

9. Because it'd mean humans were still evolving. |
|
They can't handle that. They can't deal with the idea they THEY, as they exist right now, polyester and all, aren't the "image of God" - Masters of the Universe, owners of all they covet, free to rape and pillage at will.

I think the Church stopped arguing with science sometime after Galileo. Those arguments just made them look stupid. The fundies don't care if they look (are) stupid.

19. Because they can't conceive of it themselves. |
|
They only have little pinbrains (it's the atrophy from all the years of disuse). And although they profess to believe that God is all-powerful, and that he made man in His image, in practice they often get it backwards. That is, they ascribe their own limited viewpoints and knowledge to God in their ignorance.
