Retired mods: How much of a commitment is it, really? |
|
For future reference, how many hours a week did you put in, what did you like about it, what did you not like?
Anything else?
(I trust it's all right to be asking.)

You need to be able to commit the rules and FAQ to memory and recite them back verbatim upon command. You must be able to have access to DU 24/7 and agree to carry a beeper that plays the Macarana song when there's an alert. Plus you have to sign a sworn statement that prevents you from ever having fun on DU again for the rest of your natural life.
Seriously, If you are someone who is able to follow the rules, comfortable in enforcing them and if you are already a devoted DU member (3-5 hours a week IMHO) you probably wouldn't find it much of a hardship.

7. Do you have to commit to working a given 'shift'? |
|
I'm on DU waaaaaaaaay more than 3-5 hours a week. More like 3 to 5 hours a day! But not always the same time and I sometimes can't commit to a given shift week after week.

8. LOL...thanks for that. I've considered volunteering but my schedule |
|
isn't very conducive to being a good moderator...I might get a call for a charter flight and be gone for one or two days, so my notion is that I wouldn't be a good candidate. :D

9. I have been told that mods can't be here 24/7 |
|
and it certainly isn't in the Pacific or Mountain standard time for late night purposes.

10. It's a great gig, but it can be a tad hectic.. |
|
hopefully, I'm not about to divulge any secrets I'm not supposed to... what happens is, you're assigned (along with others) to a particular forum..everytime someone hits alert in that forum, you (and the other mods for that forum) get an email with the complaint... then, there's a forum for the mods to get together and discuss what action is appropriate. Some days, I couldn't clear my inbox at all, others were pretty mellow..
