Poll question: Sex or Violence
If you had to choose between Sex or Violence being censored from your prime time TV viewing, what would you choose and why?

1. I say violence
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 01:41 AM by HamiltonHabs32
I was thinking about this question while reading an article about women getting kicked out of places like Wal-Mart for breastfeeding.

They are allowed to sell guns, but when it comes to a tit all hell breaks loose.

/then again im a pretty peaceful person

3. It's a tough call, here's why...
I would be inclined to say violence, but frankly I think that with fewer graphic war movies and depictions of war violence on TV, people would have even LESS of a clue about what war is like than they do now.

8. I had a roommate from Bosnia
and we went to go see the Matrix, and she just couldn't handle it, and had to leave.

Seeing constant fantasy violence desensitizes us to the horror of REAL violence.

4. I'm not in favor of censorship of any kind but...

...if I had to pick one to take out of my viewing (say, at gunpoint. :D) it would definitely be violence. Sex is a perfectly normal and pleasurable part of life for almost all adults and I like watching it. Violence, well, isn't, and I don't. (I fast-forward over a lot of battle scenes in a lot of movies, frankly. BOR-ing. Or really upsetting. Or, somehow, both at once.)

7. It's very simple:
sex: fun
violence: painful

Frankly, I think seeing a lot of anything desensitizes a person to it. We need less outrage over sex in this society and more over various forms of violence.

that they mix the two.

Most of the media mix sex with their violence to maximize the impact. Of course, people get desensitized to both after a while and the media have to turn up the heat to get their attention again.

This is especially critical with young people who have no real judgment centers working in their brains yet. Most recent research shows that their judgement centers aren't fully formed until they're 25 years old.

Violence in context might not be all bad. Sex in context, especially in the context of adult, consensual, loving relationships is more than OK. However what the present media routinely does is sexualize gratuitous violence. This is a most evil perversion of human activities and impulses done mainly in the pursuit of PROFIT.

Blame Capitalism. If artists had their way, they wouldn't be producing this crap.

IMHO

(Had to edit a little to make my meaning clearer)
