More on Katie Wernecke
Apparently the parents have requested yet another doctor look at her, even though 5 have already said she needs chemo and radiation. This people are just out of their minds.

http://www.caller.com/ccct/local_news/article/0,1641,CCCT_811_3859658,00.html

from the article:

Alter said Wednesday that the cancer had returned because Katie's parents had not moved fast enough in consenting to the radiation therapy. Alter said he decided Monday to stop treating Katie because he feared for his safety and that of his other patients because of comments made by her parents in the media.

As of last week her parents, Edward and Michele Wernecke, continued to object to the treatment because they were concerned about the longterm side effects of radiation, which could include stunted growth and heart disease.

They contested Lewis's ruling but said Wednesday that they now are willing to provide her with the care she needs on the condition that they consult with another doctor. At least five doctors so far have said Katie needs chemotherapy and radiation to treat her cancer.

Inside storyon Wernecke -
"At one point, Alter said, he prescribed an antibiotic to ensure Katie did not come down with an infection while her blood-cell count was low, a side effect of chemotherapy. Alter said he learned three days later that Katie's parents had not filled the prescription, a move that put her life in danger."

.....

Esparza also described an incident on March 28, when lab work showed that Katie was ready for another round of chemotherapy. Esparza said Edward Wernecke became very agitated and said he didn't want his daughter to miss a religious event she had planned for that next weekend. Esparza said she spent two hours talking to him about the importance of the treatment and eventually had to call Michele Wernecke to discuss the situation.

"She seemed fearful of her husband," Esparza said.

.....

The father, Katie and the three boys were at Driscoll hospital waiting to see a doctor when Edward Wernecke was asked to attend to his son and change his diaper.

"Mr. Wernecke told Katie to take care of it," Esparza said.
