If Frist goes down, who might replace him? |
|
As majority leader in the Senate. Someone will have to replace him when he leaves the Senate in 2007 anyway, so who've they got to set up on the tee for us after Frist?

Pat Roberts? Mitch McConnell? George Allen? Santorum if he wins re-election? I would guess someone WAY out there.

oh, that's right, he's not a senator, only good at going down. For a real answer, someone also very conservative and hopefully with as many obvious quirks (quirks is an understatement).

I'm sure Santorum wants the job, and probably McCain as well. Hmm... plenty of other ambitious little bastards would love to have the job as well. Cornyn, Coleman (long shot--way too openly bubbleheaded), Martinez (hmm... handy Hispanic token), et al.
As I recall, Catkiller is intending to step down in 2006 in any case to work on his presidential quest. Likely to be quite a vicious little succession battle--with any luck at all, they'll murder each other. That would be nice; I'd enjoy that.

6. Do you think McCain is conservative enough? |
|
I could see Santorum being top on the list. McCain seems too liberal though for the inner repub conservative circle.

Or anyway, he's not the right kind of conservative. If you're not a bible-thumper in today's Repuke party, you're automatically damaged goods. He'd give it a shot purely to further his own presidential drive and knowing that he would never get the job. On the other hand, he could also simply give it a pass.

Can you say "Trojan horse" for the status quo?

7. I would enjoy that, too. |

It would be too great if it were McCain. He'd be forced to drive hard right. But he's probably too despised to win the contest.
I'll bet it is McConnell. Another faceless, gray apparatchik, rewarded for his constipated loyalty to The Party.

Possibly. Only thing about McConnell is that he's not a complete WH tool--which I suspect would be a major litmus test. Blind personal loyalty to Horsewanker counts for a lot, certainly more than intelligence or skilfulness (as witness Catkiller).
Wow--now that would be a nice scene. A full-out slugfest between the Horsewanker Uber Alles crowd and the legislative egotists. Delicious! Bring on more  !

13. I'd guess Mitch McConnell |

Frist was the idiot son's choice as a bone to the efungelicals. After Frist totally screwed the pooch with the Schindler daughter crap, that's it for the fundies. They want to a more moderate face on things. McConnell is the best shot at that.
None of the RW bloviators will do. (Sessions, Chambliss, that nasally-sounding asshole from Oklahoma (whose name currently escapes me), Talent, etc.)
Santorum is toast. Too ambitious.
Allen. Ditto.
McCain. Loose cannon.
Nope, I go with Mitchie.
