Wes Clark and Bill Clinton |
|
We all know Bush will be ousted in 2004 (positive thinking works, I hope). Anyway, if Clark gets the nomination and then the win what would you think of Bill Clinton as Secretary of State?
I read this on stupid right wing forums, but I was just wonderin' what fellow dems think about that possibility.
So many hypotheticals, so little time...

highly unlikely.
Special envoy to the mideast, possibly, but I don't see him ever taking a cabinet position under another President.

He was a good President. I disagreed with him on welfare reform and NAFTA, but I must admit I lived damn good during his presidency. That being said, let's let the man go... at least a little bit. Give some of our candidates and legislators in safe districts a shot at cabinet positions. Gep would do well at Labor. Kerry in Veterans Affairs or Defense. Edwards would do well in a number of positions.
Maybe Clinton as Ambassador, but let's give some other deserving Dems and progressives a shot.

that political realities might preclude this.
William Jefferson Clinton, Secretary of State, in an administration that means to practice diplomacy, would be extraordinary beyond the telling of centuries.

6. Agreed, and it's important to remember... |
|
... that Clinton is the youngest, most vibrant, most energetic president of our lifetime(s). He's still got the goods, he's still motivated to serve, and to waste his enormous talents, and goodwill he harbors around the world, would be a tragedy.
We've really got to get over this penis thing and consider that Bill has much, much more to offer our country in service.
No pun intended, Jennifer :-)

I liked the idea, even though it came from conspiracy nuts. He would repair this nation's reputation tainted by Georgie Porgie.

8. Speaking for myself only... |

I think Clinton would do it. Bill is not one to let others conventional take on politics affect his decisions.
I'd rather see him as:
1. Mayor of New York City B. Governor of New York State #. Secretary of State

9. The same forums that discuss |
|
how Hillary has decided to support Dean so that she can get him nominated, then kill him just before the election, and then subsequently run in his place?
Or the same ones that discuss how Hillary is supporting Clark because she is going to run as his VP, and then once he gets enough of the country behind him she will demote him, and run for President with Clark as her VP?
Or the same ones that lay out motivations behind Hillarys support of Clark, because since she knows he can't win it leaves her open to run in 2008?

SoS, no way.
Bill Clinton just got through saying that he never made a dime until he left the Presidency. He gets more for one one-hour lecture now than he made for being President for a year. He served for eight years, and while I'm sure he is available to any successor who seeks his counsel, he'd be dumb to go back to government as a lesser light.
Say what you will about him, but nobody believes he's dumb.

If Clark does win, it will be better than a year before that decision comes close to consideration. I don't think that Clinton would accept that sort of post.
