A Warning to the Media : Get onboard or be left behind ! |
|
Michael Smith, reporter for the London Times said as much in an interview today in the Washington Post. If they choose to ignore it, that will be their cost to bear. There are other means of getting the news out. We do not have to have them. If they wish to show car chases and the latest news about Tom Cruise, that is their decision. The people will go elsewhere for their news. ==================================================== This is what Michael Smith had to say in his interview with the Post today:
<snip> Michael Smith: I personally believe there are grounds for but not yet, not in the memos we've seen. It needs US reporters to get to work to take the documents and their implications forward. If the Brits said that there weren't enough preparations in place for what comes after, what was the reaction back in Washington. Who was it who overruled the arguments coming out of London. Whether or not we are into headhunting that person has a lot to answer for as the nightly television pictures coming out of Iraq are showing. We in the mainstream media are at a crossroads now. The internet has opened up a large number of challenges to us. We can allow the web news sites to sideline us or we can impose our largely better honed skills and show that we are the best at what we do. US journalists are world-renowned for their skills and attention to accuracy but you can be inaccurate just as much by ignoring something as you can by writing it up and getting it wrong.
--snip--
Michael Smith: Yes there are other facts you still don't know and the media should be using these public documents as a base from which to find them out because it is those facts that will really damage Bush. Some of the media already are ont eh case. Knight Ridder went in very early on in this story and I see is still going. The LA Times and the Washington Post and lots of smaller papers have all been doing their bit. They need to keep going. If the administration, as it claims, did nothing wrong, it has nothing to fear from journalists looking for the facts.
....much more

2. Knight-Ridder reporters will be getting a Pulitzer for this |
|
and it's well-deserved.
AP deserves to be left in the dust.

3. stupid media - they have no clue how this is going to hit them |
|
One day they will pay for their silence.
Those days are over. The media is not in charge of the news anymore. The bloggers are! The internet is where the news is, not in the press.

In forums like this, we can get information like this into very wide circulation. This is a real and very important matter, and if people do not press speculation and hyperbolic rhetoric too far in spreading the word about the matter, it could have a beneficial effect on the political climate.....

5. Fox, lib news and the internet |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 04:52 PM by kansasblue
O'Reily was talking about it. He said the liberal newspapers are losing readership because they are too liberal. But I believe the reason is that with Fox screaming on the right it's the liberals that are leaving the newspapers because they no longer challenge the right. That fight is being carried out on the internet. Like here on DU. Tough spot to be in. I'm sure the in board rooms they are fighting about where to go, right or left. Go right and be Fox-like. Go left and compete with the internet.

6. Just interviewed British intelligence official... |
|
Said the inquiries look very bad for Blair, currently going on in United Kingdom.
If you, corporate or fascist media, do not cover the news because thats the only way you can get paid, then you will be sidelined and become irrelevant.
If that is what you want, continue down the path....Faux News is down to its lowest pitch its ever been, and is only going bankrupt. Either way you lose the money.

8. Didn't Murdoch release the DSM? |
|
Perhaps he has already changed his direction, sensing how much money will be made on the historical investigations into two of the world's top leaders. I suspect if that is his intent, the rest of the msm will soon follow :eyes:

13. No Murdoch didn't release anything |
|
despite the fact that the Sunday Times is one of his newspapers, he has no control over what they publish. It was part of the agreement he made when he bought them.

9. Get on board or get INDICTED! |

Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 05:39 PM by rocknation
I can think of only one reason why the MSM is expressing such an active lack of interest in getting both sides of the DSM (not to mention the WMD) story, it's because they're co-spirators. Maybe the prospect of an accessory to treason charge will wake them up!

on whether * lied us into war, no news there. Now they have to explain why they haven't told the people about the memo, and about the Democratic forum. Nope no news there, it may only save some of our soldiers. The MSM is going down.

I like what this guy is saying and I hope he wakes up some of our own MSM... but, like he says, we don't need them. If they don't get on board, they will be left behind. There is a "Thank you Michael Smith!" thread by lala_rawraw here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3874020
