WH Press Secretary Mocks 'Downing Street Memo'
NEW YORK With a hearing about to begin on Capitol Hill on the so-called Downing Street Memo, hosted by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), reporters at today's White House briefing by Press Secretary Scott McClellan naturally raised the subject, albeit briefly.

Rather than ask about details or implications of the 2003 internal British document -- which seemed to suggest that the Bush administration was determined to go to war against Iraq and that intelligence would be “fixed” to support it -- the correspondents wondered if the White House was ever going to respond to a letter authored by Conyers and signed by 88 of his colleagues asking for information about the memo.

A transcript of two separate exchanges follows:

***

Q Scott, on another topic, has the President or anyone else from the administration responded to the letter sent last month by Congressman John Conyers and signed by dozens of members of the House of Representatives, regarding the Downing Street memo? Has the President or anyone else responded?

2. I think we should make a concerted effort to
ignore little Scotty, BBJ; he never tells the truth and he's full of it. I'm fed up with the fact that everything he says is a lie.

Pity that there are Americans who don't understand that. It used to be a great nation.

16. True...True.
But if we can all agree that all of shrubs cabinet are not human, and we know they are not animals, then we can accept a bit of persuasion, to finally, in the end, get them to tell the truth.

Answer: because written perjury is way too easy to prove.

5. Oh, Scotty, let me set you straight...
this is NOT old news. I know this is your talking point, but it's not going to fly.

And it doesn't matter how any particular congressman voted regarding the war; all of congress was decieved and lied to and were giving your boss the benefit of the doubt (except for a few that saw through the lies from the beginning).

7. My question for Scottie--How can you can live with the blood of those
who have died on your hands because of your bosses rushing into a war under false pretenses? What do you say to the loved ones who have to explain to a child why their dad or mom died for a lie?

8. Why don't the media ask outright, did the "president" decide to wage war
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 04:56 PM by BurtWorm
and then have his minions fix the facts around the decision, as the minutes show? And don't let up until he answers that question yes or no.

Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 05:31 PM by pinto
US Congressman Conyers has presented 500,000 plus signatures in support of full disclosure of the Administration's public justification and private planning for the Iraq War to the White House.

The recently released minutes of British intelligence meetings (aka the Downing Street Memo) has shed new light on the situation.

In light of the leadership standards President Bush has claimed for his presidency, it would seem a reasonable response to level with the American public. He ought to answer the questions raised and seconded by half a million Americans. Let the chips fall where they may. Let's have a good old up or down vote in the court of public opinion.
