Dick Durbin's nazi comparison? Just say Rick Santorum. |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 05:58 PM by shance
It's very predictable that corporate propagandist Hannity is calling for Dick Durbin's impeachment. (yawn....)
This quote was from the LA Times not too long ago regarding Rick Santorum's olympic stretch of a comparison of Democratic Senators to Nazis. I kid you not.
Why? These Democratic were exercising their duty in trying to protect the vitally necessary judicial filibuster.
Quote:
<<Last week Republican Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania violated a major taboo. He was trying to argue that the Democrats had no grounds to complain that the Republicans were breaking Senate rules in their effort to ban judicial filibusters. His argument was that the Democrats themselves had broken the rules by filibustering judges in the first place.
Here's how Santorum put it: "The audacity of some members to stand up and say, 'How dare you break this rule.' It's the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942 saying, 'I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me. How dare you bomb my city? It's mine.' This is no more the rule of the Senate than it was the rule of the Senate before not to filibuster.">>
Whenever someone is shouting about Dick Durbin's "audacity" regarding making a comparison of the unecessary cruelty and trauma inflicted on hundreds of innocent individuals, the answer is simple:
It's called Rick Santorum.
Santorum's accusation of those speaking the truth and the protection of a much needed legislative procedure is nothing short of insanity.
Consider the source.
Consider the pattern of Santorum's statements and his lack of ethical actions in his own life and business dealings. Consider Santorum's accusations of those taking Republicans to task (like himself) for abusing their privilege and power in numerous ways, namely trying to overturn the filibuster.
Let's talk about what is reprehensible. THAT is what is beyond reprehension.
Not Durbin's comparison, which holds ocean's of credibility more than Santorum's pathetic straw grabbing.

The first person who mentions Nazis or Hitler loses by default.
Durbin blew it. He should pay attention.

2. Hello, Santorum mentioned it first, so he loses |
|
Durbin mentioning it in the correct context means, point, match, score!
Call his office and thank him, I did!
202 224 3121, just ask for Dick Durbin and they'll connect you.

3. Golden Rule of debate: Truth and facts always win if you keep telling it. |

And you don't back down.
Truth and facts always trump spin. It may take a while, but it eventually takes the trophy.

22. OK, but Durbin is the news |
|
Nothing else is gaining traction.
Personally, I don't think shouting Nazi is going to get us any votes in the next election. We successfully used the phrase "mean spirited" against Bob Dole and won. The Republicans are now using it against us.
The swing voters listen to the rhetoric and they don't like unpleasantness. Pure bluntness is the wrong way to approach moderates, and we need the moderates to win.

4. I just read an article that says |
|
Theresa Heinz Kerry is going to try to help unseat him. She has been close to his family for years. I hadn't realized he took Heinz's seat after his death. She doesn't appreciate his conservative self-serving ways. WooHoo!

9. Santorum projects what he is.... |
|
Santorum is a nazi fascist enabler, just read the history. Call him out on it, reject his fears and show the world what he is. He is the one who has consistently all this time violated the rules....

21. Can't forget ES&S and Sequoia companies in all the voting chaos. |
|
ES&S is apparently a bigger ballot tabulator and company than Diebold.
Diebold has just been the one achieving celebrity status.
