Poll question: Should we take death threats from conservative nutcases seriously?
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 11:20 PM by JanMichael
I only ask because a DUer said that she/he had had several death threats and it occured to me that perhaps now days we just don't take these things seriously anymore. Anyway I didn't get that impression from the target but from the responses.

Edit: I've never had a death threat even when co-hosting (Warming a seat) the Guy James Show so perhaps I take these things more seriously that most:shrug:

Edit again: What should you do if the local police ignore you????

1. Nick Berg an example
His father signed an online petition against the war on Iraq, and
the "freepers" posted it and urged people to contact Berg's bosses and other people to make trouble for them.

then Nick got detained....

2. Yes. Call the police. These people are dangerous.
Clearly, by supporting *, they support terrorism (since * is a terrorist.) Who knows what they're capable of. Have you ever encountered some of these nuts or heard them on C-Span? Nutcases, the whole lot of them.

3. What kind of death threat?
I've said to many people "if you do that I'll kill you". I've even said it to my kids! But it was a string of words, and certainly not something I'd ever do! If a threat is made on an internet site, I think it should be considered in the context it was made. It should obviously be taken very serious if you can be found and have reason to think it could be carried out.

7. I would imagine in a letter or email or to your face...
...by a person that you don't know personally.

BTW: I'm not a person that's ever really used "I'll kill you" in a jocular manner, and I wrestled in HS and sparred (boxing) in college, go figure:shrug:

4. You ALWAYS take a death threat seriously. ALWAYS.
Call the local police, the State Marshalls, the FBI, the local and national media, your family and friends, your pastor, your neighbors, ............

WE THE PEOPLE .... WILL NEVER FORGET

"... we sent our young people into harm's way without leveling with the American people." - Congresswoman Pelosi before Congress, 16 June 2005

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - Impeachment of Bush and Cheney; indictment and prosecution of all members of the Bush regime who participated in the deception, should be campaign promises of any candidate worthy of our vote in the 2006 Congressional elections.

5. From the extremist neocon fundies?
Yes absolutely, and always. And stand to rebuke them back, throw them in jail, and everything else. Their fate will be the same as this evil.

6. I've had them try to threaten my ISP
when they've lost debates in mixed forums. They are universally petty, mean spirited and vindictive. They are also famously lazy and cowardly, so if they can't do it via a computer terminal, you're probably safe.

In any case, I mask my IP number when I'm on IRC and I am very careful of just how much personal info gets out. I have met only two people offline in 10 years, with a third scheduled for September, always in public places. I am very picky.

If someone has your personal info (name, SSN, address, phone number, or a combination of any of those), then you need to take it very, very seriously, if only because their style is to order pizzas, magazines, and porn for you.

The best plan is to keep personal info to yourself, limit your email account to friends and family and use a yahoo or hotmail account for political contacts, and be very, very careful who you meet offline.
