I had to attend my daughter's sports banquet in a freeper household |
|
last night
My daughter got her varsity letter in the first year the sport was available for girls in her high school (golf). It was started by a freeper parent of a very talented golfer who essentially had to get the sport going in the public school because he couldn't afford private school for his little golfer.
Why, you ask? Because he had been laid off by his company because of this booming economy of B*'s and because he is such an uptight a..hole who spouts religious right wing fundie stuff at work and this does not fly in MA.( yet, anyway)
His talented little golfer is afraid of him because not only is he a "stage mother" when it comes to golf but when his oldest daughter annouced that she was going to register as a Democrat that kid has received the silent treatment after a huge fight at home.
In the last week my daughter and 3 of her friends started a Young Democrats Club at school; 27 other kids just signed on. The talented little golfer made a point of telling my daughter that she wished she could join but she couldn't risk a break with her dad/ golf coach like her sister is experiencing.
His household is ruled by fear
I didn't tell my husband any of this prior to the banquet last night. I wondered if he would pick up on any vibes. He did
We got home and hubby said "What is with golfer Dad?, Intense guy, huh? Not anything like .... (another parent we deal with in another sport were our daughter got a Varsity letter- Booster President)
Personally, he is uptight, rigid, with almost no social skills.
Mark my words though: a very talented lady golfer will come out of MA,but I wonder if she'll ever register as a Democrat.

1. I'd look at the mandatory reporting laws in your state |

That dad is conducting emotional abuse of his kids.

3. I let my kids make their own decisions on political views |

and for the most part moral values. We have taught them and talked with them but I can't rule their minds and force them to think my way. I am fortunate that they have seen what this regime is doing to this country but if they did not, I am man enough to say What ever you feel is right. That man does not know what he is loosing by shutting his daughter out simply because she had different views. I am so glad my children don't fear me, I much rather have their respect instead.

4. You can lead a horse to water..... I know what you mean |

Since I have gotten heavily involved in politics I sometimes attend events:rallies, meetups etc
My kids know they are welcome and have attended some out of curiosity and sometimes come back because our meetups are held in a bookstore and they want to shop as I meetup and sometimes they actually want to go to get to see Kerry or Dean
It is up to them
One thing,as a mother of teens I know I don't own my car's radio if my kids are in the car. This freeper dad ONLY allows religious music to be played even when his kids' friends are in the car.

5. If you are feeling malicious, remind the golfer that Title IX is under |

assault. Yes, the goverment regulations that mandate equal funding for girl's sports.
Just love, how Republicans suckle on the federal breast and then kick the breast that feeds them.
Have your kid befriend this young lady and pass on all the Democratic info and get her involved at school as much as she can. Let your kid tell her that it is a Democratic initiative (Title IX) that is funding her golf program at school and is providing equal access to a sport dominated by males.
Lots of kids rebel against too rigid an upbringing.
Also, pass on a lot of stuff about Women's Rights, NOW and NARAL. That will give her the support she will eventually need with her dad.
