To MSM: Issue: Get over old facts...
The so called “Downing Street Memo” shows hard evidence that G.W. Bush and his government lied.
The iraq-war was fix at early stage, and only the conditions to make the war possible were adjusted.
They misled Senate and Congress, and furthermore all Americans and all in the world, including the UN.

Now we’ve been told: “Get over it, it’s nothing new in the Memos.”

As a concerned german citzien I can say:
It’s right, it’s nothing new in the Memos.
We knew that the Bush-Regime lied to go to Iraq for quite a long time.
A lot of people knew this.
But nothing happened. Till now.

The point is another: Do we accept, that leaders use lies to go for war?

On my search in history I’ve learned, that every leader lies to his people.
War is based on deception.
As Göring said beneath the Nuremberg Tibunal:
“Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in
England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."
"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."
"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to
danger. It works the same way in any country."
-- Gilbert, G.M. with Hermann Göring at Nuremberg tribunal, published in Nuremberg
Diary, New York: Farrar, Straus and Company, 1947 (pp. 278-279).

You'll see, the lie was the twin-Brother of reign.
Rulers want to gain power with their lies, they want to stay at power, they want wars because of profits and so on.

But do we accept this? Do we accept lies to be a normal reign-method?
At the price of death tolls in thousands? The human tragedys?
The energy of working-people via money waste for war and arms?

If not, we shall resist and demand justice and truth.
IMO: were Lies unacceptable for democracy.
If they are necessary for the rulers, you’ve got a rotten democracy,
Not more worth to called so.

Get angry.

1. The memo may be old but 560,000 signatures is not "old news"..
nor was Conyers forum old news. They investigated 9/11 but not the legality of the war and the issues attached to it. It's fair game.

They wish it would go away. We must not let that happen. Don't let up.

WRITE A LETTER. BLAST A MEDIA OUTLET. CALL A CONGRESSMAN. TODAY.

2. Today it's old because when it was new
we were told it wasn't NEWS because there was NO PROOF. Now that there is PROOF it's old so we shouldn't talk about it....now in the spirit of Where is Waldo...lets search for other stories that were dismissed THEN because we hadn't had time to VERIFY THE TRUTH...but are DISMISSED NOW because we should have talked about them THEN.

Almost makes you think they have some incentive to NOT look for stuff in the NOW so they won't have to talk about it even when it's proved LATER...curious.

3. good post
Welcome to DU :toast:

As a NYer I have to admit that I fell for Bush's Göring psy-ops after 9/11. NYC was a very dark place in the weeks that followed. It wasn't a stretch for people to support a war. But NYers are smart and nearly all of them (80% or so) wised up by Nov 2004.
