Springer has this same caller that calls in and makes a fool of himself

He was talking about breaking the record for miles driven in a rental car and he wanted Jerry to give him some publicity I think. I am sure the same guy called in proposing a bill where every American would have to do a book report once a month. His voice was exactly the same.
Is Springer doing this on purpose or is this just some nutty caller? Majority Report does fake calls from time to time. I really don't care for that kind of thing if that is what is happening.

1. On purpose. He's part of the staff.

2. The call sounded like a spoof -- if it is just a weird guy

who is getting his 10-minutes of fame by calling in then you would think the screeners would catch him - at least the second time around.

He does a radio show where he plays the role of the host and the guest, and gets people not familiar with the format to call him and chew out the fake guests. Callers are usually someone dial surfing and they come across his seriously nutty conversations with the guest.

4. I heard Hendrie's show a couple of times a few years ago.

He makes it so absurd, but there are always people who fall for it. Left me shaking my head in wonder.
