John Conyers, American Hero -- PIX->>>
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 02:21 PM by Stephanie

Stay out of small planes, JC. We need you!

# U.S. Representative John Conyers (D-MI) speaks at an anti-war rally near the White House in Washington, DC June 16, 2005, after delivering a petition to The White House signed by over 500,000 Americans and 94 members of U.S. Congress asking U.S. President George W. Bush to respond to questions raised by the Downing Street Minutes. The Downing Street memo produced for British Prime Minister Tony Blair in July 2002 portrayed Bush as inevitably invading Iraq and said 'intelligence and facts' were being fixed eight months before the March 2003 invasion. Bush and Blair dismissed this. REUTERS/Chris Kleponis

snip from his web site: Congressman John Conyers, Jr. attended public schools in Detroit and earned his BA and a law degree from Wayne State University. He is married to the former Monica Esters. Together, they have raised two sons, John III and Carl Edward.

13. I feel like a sap, but it has gotten to the point that every time
I see a picture of him, tears well up. I don't know if they are tears of grief for our country or gratitude for him. It's bizarre. I'm not usually like this. At all!

18. I hear you, PP. It is moving to know of his dedication to justice
I get teary eyed in the most unusual places. Stuff hits me when I'm shopping or just going about my day. Especially when I think of Bush's War and its effects on so many innocent people.

It doesn't seem "normal" but we live in desperate times. So maybe it is normal for compassionate people to cry over justice and injustice.

15. I called his DC office and said "thank you"
I thanked him for helping to bring truth the American people and in a format that was easy to understand. I told them he is a real patriot and started crying.

It feels like tide is finally starting to change.

16. Great pictures of a great American hero!
He will go down in history ~ there are so few men of honor in public life but he is one.

I remember when I first saw Fahrenheit 9/11 and the first scene when the black caucus was unable to get any support for stopping the certification of the 2000 election. I was stunned. I had no idea that had happened.

How frustrating for Rep. Conyers to not have had the support he needed to stop that travesty from going forward.

But things have changed since then and now he has that support, but to have fought on for so long, never being certain that he would win, that is an inspiration to me when I feel like giving up. He has not, so we must not.

I'm just glad we have him on our side!

17. I'm sad that I only learned how great this man is
within the last six months.

I'd heard the name before but it really didn't register. I had no idea we had a John Conyers fighting for our rights.

Where have you been all my life? LOL
:loveya: like a daughter.

As awful as the wait is, it really is unrealistic to expect immediate results.

And I was glued to those hearings when they repeated last night! I hung on every word! This man is my hero, too! But everybody who spoke was just magnificent. And they gave me hope.:patriot:

However, I am still looking for major coverage of this historic effort in the mainstream news!:grr:

30. One of those rare moments.
The right man at the right place at the right time. John Conyers' hand is on the lever of history. What he is doing now will affect the entire world.

Washington, Lincoln, King, and now John Conyers steps forward!
