Payback for pulling out of Joint Terrorism Task Force - Portland, OR
I was incredibly proud of our Mayor, Tom Potter for refusing to go along with the FBI when they tried to strong arm him into trampling on our civil rights. This is the payback for not going along with their program... but we are fighting back.

Base Commission Gets Earful From NW Politicians

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon's top elected officials urged members of a commission reviewing the Pentagon's base closure plans to abandon plans to shift most of Oregon's F-15 fighter jets to other states.
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden said the move would leave airspace over the Northwest virtually defenseless.

Senator Gordon Smith said the plan would leave just a handful of planes to defend a target-rich region that includes Columbia River dams, the Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot and the Hanford nuclear site in Washington.

1. Keep on fighting!
It was absolutely insane when they moved the military's mountain rescue team from Oregon to, uh, Florida. Yeah, them Florida peaks are something else, ain't they? It just doesn't end.

2. Gov. Ted is also calling for Nat. Guard to come home...
I love Oregonians - They do know how to speak up for what they believe!

Gov. Says Draft Can Change Minds About War

SALEM, Ore. - Gov. Ted Kulongoski is calling the use of Oregon National Guard troops in Iraq unreasonable, unfair and unconscionable.

snip>

He also expressed concerns about the effect the war is having on the Iraqi people.

"These are very proud and independent people and they will not tolerate very long an occupying army in their country," he said.

snip>

Among his greatest concerns are volunteer soldiers, specifically Oregonians, who are unable to find a personal exit strategy from the war, a conflict they never dreamed would go on this long.

"I think it is unreasonable. It is unfair and it is actually unconscionable to me that the Defense Department thinks that they can rotate these National Guard troops two, three and four times into these areas of conflict."
