That picture of Conyers handing the petitions through bars...
makes me think we should start referring to the White House and everything within its security perimeter as "The Green Zone."

Just like in Iraq, there's one reality inside the Green Zone and another out in the country, where the real people live their reality-based lives.

2. I've been to DC many times
when I lived on the East Coast, but haven't been back since W took office. When I heard about the perimeter that is now in place, how a person cannot even approach the wrought iron gates outside the house of HIS or HER president, it disgusted me. Isn't he paid by OUR tax dollars, and doesn't he have to answer to US.

God damn I hate him, so very much!!!!

9. I'm just sorry I didn't get a chance to visit the White House
when it was a welcoming place. Imagine, Andrew Jackson opened it to all of the American people. Today, it is surrounded by a huge fence, secret service people swarming everywhere. Somehow, that is symbolic of what has happened to our democracy. The White House, which used to be the peoples' house, now belongs only to the elite few. The rest of us don't really count. And what is the value of the average citizen? A breeding ground for children to be sacrificed in the wars of the very rich and a bank account to pay for munitions manufacture and the costs of war. Last I heard, Laura Bush was planning to use crowns in the new decor of the Lincoln Bedroom. What a travesty.

12. Funny, how Gannon had no problem getting into the WH
but members of the US House of Representatives are barred.
