It is an open secret that Congress is run by 20-year-olds. That's an exaggeration, of course, but not far from the truth. A great deal of the important work we see coming from Conyers, Woolsey, Kucinich, Lee, Nadler, McDermott and the rest is actually done by the young, inspired, dedicated, around-the-clock staffers who work for them.

These men and women get it done. They write the speeches, the letters, they organize the hearings, they run up and down the halls grabbing other staffers in order to bring other Congresspeople on board.

If you have been watching the Hill lately, you know that some pretty incredible things have begun to happen. Kucinich and Abercrombie have pulled some Republicans in on out-of-Iraq legislation. Maxine Waters has created the Out-Of-Iraq caucus, which claims 41 members already. Pelosi's out-of-Iraq legislation yesterday got every Democrat on board. The Congressional Black Caucus has vowed to introduce out-of-Iraq legislation every day. And Mr. Conyers had his hearing, and delivered the signatures, and will have more hearings in the days and weeks to come.

These Representatives did this, but their staffers got it done. Thank the staffers when you thank the Reps. Here is the staffers-of-Conyers thank-you page:

3. Now this is opposition.
And they are getting very clueful about it too: leveraging the internet in a way that, if they had done so 6-8 months ago...well...We wouldn't be having this conversation I suspect.

Better late than never. Still gonna be a big mess to clean up.

5. Done. Now we need to help Rep Kaptur on getting that deployment
and appropriation information she was asking for. I personally think this will all tie into 9-11 since I saw a Special Forces Task Force 574 mentioned on a Discovery Channel show Jan. 30, 2003, that said that Task Force was in Afganistan in July 2001.

The 'black ops' money with Special Forces is also a problem ... I don't know how much Congress can actually 'oversee' as it is still their Constitutional job. Task Force 121 I hear is already a 'private army'.

9. I can personally attest
Was was an intern in Chairman Conyers' office during the fall of 1989. I'm sure there is a whole new cast of characters now... but I'm sure the hours are the same. They stay late; they work weekends--and it may seem glamorous, but a lot of time, it isn't!

Way to go, Congressman.... you continue to make us proud!

11. Question..
So maybe this is a little hokie and all.. I know I cant send them a big old batch of chocolate chip cookies.. And flowers dont really fuel the soul..

Is there anything I could send a bunch of young kids running on adreneline and youth? I mean, could I send a care package of jolt cola, a bunch of power bars.. a homeade pin the eviction notice on the white house door game?

Im donating to Conyers and Waters, but Id love to do something more personal. However, with anthrax scares and crazy crap.. I dont know what I could do that would be helpful.

12. Hm
I'll bet you a dollar that if you called the minority Judiciary office and asked for the protocol, you'd find out.

That's a nice idea.

13. Thank you Will, you are 100% correct in calling us out! We need to say
thank you to all the staffers!!!

Wish we could do another flower campaign, but I think we are all tapped out and there is more to come.

Peace.
