Did Blair concoct the yellow cake stuff for *? DSM musings |
|
As I was watching the forum and people were talking about the discredited British report ("Bush warned not to rely on British intelligence X months before the 18 words" etc.), I got to wondering why the British, who are no slouches at intelligence themselves, would produce such a piece of cr*p. Maybe it was made to order?
Think about it. Bush/Cheney couldn't order our intelligence services to fabricate it (it might come out since it was more than merely massaging intelligence) so they ask the helpful Tony to "cook" something up that they COULD use. Tony doesn't use it himself (it wasn't concocted for him) so no one in the UK investigates its provenance very rigorously. And when it is discredited, Bush/Cheney can say, "Well, it wasn't OURS" and, of course, there's no trail on this side of the pond. Or, "I never said that (that Saddam Hussein was trying to buy uranium from/in Africa). I said the British said that."

2. Yes, it did but who was behind it? |

It just seemed so very convenient--almost made-to-order. The one who was going to use it (the US) wasn't the one who produced (the UK) and the one who produced it (the UK) wasn't the one who used it (the US).
US people who might be suspicious would really be able to investigate in the UK and UK people who might be able to probe weren't really riled up about it because Blair didn't rely on it.
