Call rises to 'dump Diebold'

State panel declines to give vote machine recommendation after facing angry crowd
By Ian Hoffman, STAFF WRITER

SACRAMENTO — As California rolls toward a train wreck with federal and state laws, voting activists told state elections officials that Diebold and its voting machines aren't welcome along for the ride.

Witness after witness — Bay Area liberals seasoned with a few Libertarians and Republicans — called on state officials Thursday to block Diebold's voting machines from the nation's largest elections market, casting the firm as synonymous with lost trust and vote "theft" in the 2000 and 2004 elections.

In a packed hearing punctuated by chanting, activists demanded paper ballots be counted by hand, by computers running open-source software if absolutely necessary, but never by secret software closely held by a company known for executives' support of Republican candidates.

"If you value democracy, you will not certify these hackable machines with secret mechanisms that are considered proprietary," said Berkeley's Phoebe Anne Sorgen. "You will dump Diebold Elections Systems and software."

1. Ahh... Too late.
Listen to me now... or feel my wrath later.

The "redding" of CA is a done deal.

Ahnold is pushing for a special election in 2005
to beat the 2006 deadline set for HAVA.

The SOS has been booted.

The RWers have been working on this since the
Blackouts.

5. Groper Draws Huge Crowds of Hostile Demonstrators Everywhere He Goes
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 11:46 AM by AndyTiedye
The idea of having this special election is about as popular as
**'s plans to gut Social Security.

Everywhere the Groper goes, thousands of angry demonstrators appear.

Of course they will have the special election anyway, and they have made
all the obvious preparations to guarantee that the power grab will pass,
regardless of the actual vote.
The election will positively reek of fraud, since they will have to
change millions of votes to "win", but we will probably get enough
fawning over the Groper in the LA Times et al to make it look
plausable to the rubes.

The only thing that might be able to stop them is the courts.
They aren't all stacked with right-wing shills in California yet.

6. Pass the no confidence resolution....
That would force the whole public to not recognize the sElection and end the whole debate.

3. Good for them!
We need a lot more "angry crowds" concerning this issue. If I had been close enough, I would have been one of them.

Don't you think they're going to keep pushing here in CA for these machines? I write a newsletter for a Dem club. Who can I tell them to write to about this? Where or how can they get involved?

Call on them to storm the streets and raid everything to stop ES&S from certifying iVotronic machines. Make em' understand unauditable machines=NO machines!!!

We can do it and stop those thieves. And then if everybody pickets on Jeb Bush he might just be forced to resign, it should be done and must be done.
