I have an idea about hold MSM responsible. Please tell me what you think.
The DSM fiasco is taking off like gangbusters.
It seems to me it is going to catch fire like a bonfire.

I was thinking we should keep records of which MSM
outlets are downplaying the DSM and which are kissing *'s ass.

Then, when the crap really hits the fan, and all MSM outlets
are scurrying to get the news out, we will have quotes
and articles that we can confront them with when public
opinion is on our side.

"WHERE WERE *YOU* WHEN WE NEEDED YOU?"

"BACK IN MAY AND JUNE OF 2005, THIS IS WHAT *YOU* SAID"

3. Excellent idea! Revoke corporate charters & SUE THEM for malpractice!!!!!
These MSM bastards who hide the failures and corruption of the republicans do not deserve to be in the news business.

I hope to see all their shareholders bankrupted and the chicken journalists fired and never work in journalism again.

7. The Corporate Owners and Repug Editors don't care.
You can cut and paste examples of their idiocy and pandering forever and they don't care. You can write all the LTTE you want, send e-mails, hell, picket the damn HO office and they won't care. This has been done, is being done, all over the country, including here in my hometown in Austin TX. It makes very little difference in their coverage or lack thereof. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but don't expect it to do anything but make you feel better unless it's tied to cutting their money flow somehow. When the Austin American Statesman lost thousands subscribers after they endorsed Bush you bet it got their attention, but they didn't change their coverage much, and it's considered a left leaning paper by most. In time, that loss hurts them and it shows up on the bottom line and the Corporate tools see it on their spreadsheets. Alternative media in Austin is thriving, however.

Big Media will follow the lead of whoever is in power and do whatever it takes to keep money coming in from their subscribers and advertisers. Any action to effect Media outlets has to hit them in the pocketbook or they won't give a shit.

It's working slowly. Note the drops in FOX news ratings, declining subscription numbers of some wingnut biased papers. Slam the media that is lazy or lying, support independent media, but most of all find ways to let advertisers know their expensive ad buys are not helping them and don't spend money on bad papers and watch TV news. Tell your fiends, dog your complacent acquaintances, support businesses that advertize in alternative media. Don't let the media get away with it. Turn them off and let them know they no longer provide you with a usable product and consequently their advertisers are yelling in an empty room.

8. Recommend!
The press has a moral obligation to protect us from gov. propaganda. The only people they are protecting are themselves. They have helped create this madness and they must be held accountable for their actions. IMO, these people who "pose" as journalists are imposters. They are traitors who have willingly complied with our corrupt govt. by assisting in the cover-up of treasonous, criminal conduct!

We are Americans! Americans believe in transparency and accountability. The evidence against this administration is overwhelming. The media has abdicated their responsibility as professional "journalists" to REPORT THE FACTS! They have betrayed the citizens of this country and MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for their actions. If we, as a country, do not demand accuracy in our media, American citizens will continue to fall victim to the gross manipulation of facts as they are "reported" by a media deficient in integrity, honor and truth! IMO, it is time to fight back and demand retribution!

peace.

They are just spitting out the WH propaganda on Iran which is pushing military action. They do not question. They do not investigate. They just report the WH propaganda as if it were fact.

A repeat of what they did on Iraq.

I won't go into too many details as you can get those from the above posts. Just trying to support JC - the DEM who has consistently done the right thing in the eyes of the left - middle and reasonably minded people on the right. He's simply about doing the job congress is supposed to do and he's getting no respect... from the MSM.

Code of Ethics
Ethics > SPJ Code of Ethics
Preamble
Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility. Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's principles and standards of practice.

SEEK TRUTH AND REPORT IT

Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Journalists should:

* Test the accuracy of information from all sources and exercise care to avoid inadvertent error. Deliberate distortion is never permissible.
* Diligently seek out subjects of news stories to give them the opportunity to respond to allegations of wrongdoing.
* Identify sources whenever feasible. The public is entitled to as much information as possible on sources' reliability.
* Always question sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Clarify conditions attached to any promise made in exchange for information. Keep promises.
* Make certain that headlines, news teases and promotional material, photos, video, audio, graphics, sound bites and quotations do not misrepresent. They should not oversimplify or highlight incidents out of context.
* Never distort the content of news photos or video. Image enhancement for technical clarity is always permissible. Label montages and photo illustrations.
* Avoid misleading re-enactments or staged news events. If re-enactment is necessary to tell a story, label it.
* Avoid undercover or other surreptitious methods of gathering information except when traditional open methods will not yield information vital to the public. Use of such methods should be explained as part of the story
* Never plagiarize.
* Tell the story of the diversity and magnitude of the human experience boldly, even when it is unpopular to do so.
* Examine their own cultural values and avoid imposing those values on others.
* Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance or social status.
* Support the open exchange of views, even views they find repugnant.
* Give voice to the voiceless; official and unofficial sources of information can be equally valid.
* Distinguish between advocacy and news reporting. Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context.
* Distinguish news from advertising and shun hybrids that blur the lines between the two.
* Recognize a special obligation to ensure that the public's business is conducted in the open and that government records are open to inspection.

MINIMIZE HARM

Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect.

Journalists should:

* Show compassion for those who may be affected adversely by news coverage. Use special sensitivity when dealing with children and inexperienced sources or subjects.
* Be sensitive when seeking or using interviews or photographs of those affected by tragedy or grief.
* Recognize that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort. Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance.
* Recognize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than do public officials and others who seek power, influence or attention. Only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone’s privacy.
* Show good taste. Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity.
* Be cautious about identifying juvenile suspects or victims of sex crimes.
* Be judicious about naming criminal suspects before the formal filing of charges.
* Balance a criminal suspect’s fair trial rights with the public’s right to be informed.

ACT INDEPENDENTLY

Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know.

Journalists should:

* Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived.
* Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise integrity or damage credibility.
* Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and shun secondary employment, political involvement, public office and service in community organizations if they compromise journalistic integrity.
* Disclose unavoidable conflicts.
* Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable.
* Deny favored treatment to advertisers and special interests and resist their pressure to influence news coverage.
* Be wary of sources offering information for favors or money; avoid bidding for news.

BE ACCOUNTABLE

Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other.

Journalists should:

* Clarify and explain news coverage and invite dialogue with the public over journalistic conduct.
* Encourage the public to voice grievances against the news media.
* Admit mistakes and correct them promptly.
* Expose unethical practices of journalists and the news media.
* Abide by the same high standards to which they hold others.

*******************************************************************
Free press my ass! Newsanchors and cablenews "reporters" must be held to the same level of accountability, as well. Can you find any principles that have been strictly adhered to by this country's "so-called" journalists? Me neither.

peace.

21. The brash ones are digging themselves a grave
Those on record pumping the the war went too far in admitting "any fool knew" it wasn't true. Besides taking that to the public- which it should in public advertisements, which are them are liable to criminal lawsuit, which liable to FCC regulation and loss of license, which to directly be names to bring to the attention of sponsors, which to march up the chain to see if the REST of their buddies are this open about their role.

Yes accountability procedures should march on ALL fronts. The never ending battle to destroy credibility where credibility must be destroyed.
To destroy sponsor revenue when most people OBVIOUSLY would have opposed the war and more strongly had their trust not been betrayed. To highlight the eventual need for media reform to do its job. To present the alternatives of the ones who alone were telling the truth "that everyone knew" and why these people are still under attack by the smug cynics of war crime fame.

They should have brought their lawyers instead of their big mouths and over inflated egos. They are in the wonderful place where no one was expected to read them their rights and they don't even know they have willingly, insolently, convicted themselves.

And try to tell the American people, you knew and wanted this. Sneer. And to tell the American people it is their will and their fault and they wanted to be lied to. And wanted to slaughter and kill and keep killing.

Not my country right or wrong but my country wrong and you like it. Sure. Rapers of the truth not journalists.

22. DU and MoveOn should file a Class Action Lawsuit
against all the major media outlets not doing their job.

1. For failing to provide the service they claim to offer. News.

2. For misleading American audiences and attempting to sway public opinion.

3. For mislabeling infotainment, and placing it in a box clearing marked and intended to contain News.

4. For not adhearing to the standards of their proffesion as designated by the Code of Journalistic Ethics.

5. For failing to act as the "Fourth Estate" and Watchdogs of government on behalf of the American people as the Press was originally intended to be.

6. (Specifically for FOX NEWS) False advertizing, you are neither fair nor balanced. It's about time we stopped letting the Rhino insist that it is a Humming Bird.

7. For wasting time covering stories like Jannet Jackson's Superbowl Performance (or Boobgate), Run Away Bride, the Micheal Jackson Trial, or the Missing Blonde Girl of the Day; When there are far more important things that the American People are entitled to know.

8. For failing to maintain nuetrality and objectivity in their reporting.

(To feel one way or another is fine personally, it's natural to take sides. But as a reporter you must bring yourself beyond that. From one point of veiw, you may see a circle, from another point of veiw, it is a rectangle. Only by seeing both sides, and rising above the need to see things one way or another can you truly see that it is indeed a cylinder.)
