CBS News Is Getting It Right About DSM.... Finally
Is This An AP Story?

AP) Amid new questions about President Bush's drive to topple Saddam Hussein, several House Democrats urged lawmakers on Thursday to conduct an official inquiry to determine whether the president intentionally misled Congress.

At a public forum where the word "impeachment" loomed large, Exhibit A was the so-called Downing Street memo, a prewar document leaked from inside the British government to The Sunday Times of London a month and a half ago. Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, organized the event.

Recounting a meeting of Prime Minister Tony Blair's national security team, the memo says the Bush administration believed that war was inevitable and was determined to use intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the ouster of Saddam.

"The intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy," one of the participants was quoted as saying at the meeting, which took place just after British officials returned from Washington

1. It amazes me that they can put this on the internet(s) but
never mention it on their CBS Evening News; if it's good enough for the people w/computers, why isn't good enough for the rest of the people?

3. They have...
In a news broadcast, minus commercials, 19 minutes to cover the news. Yes, we think that this is a story. They are time-constrained and we have to keep beating on them to make them understand that this is a story worthy of a slot.

But that time is coming.

4. You Got Me Sister
Maybe they will if we show enough interest in this. At least they put their name on this story now, better than nothing....

8. questions
Not to take away from the coverage, it is good, I have to comment on 2 things and see what others think...

It might just be nitpicking but they say the memo says the Bush administration believed that war was inevitable. Not so, the memo says "Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action"
Bush administration believed that war was inevitable could be construed as we don't have a choice, it's inevitable we're going to have to go to war.

What happened and what the memo supports is that Bush saw the war as inevitable(it's gonna happen) because he wanted to not because he had to or needed to....he wanted to...of course it wasn't "inevitable" all Bush had to do is change his mind and back off. To him it was "inevitable" simply because he had made his mind up what he wanted to do and that's what was going to happen IMO.

Second, that he "was determined to use intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the ouster of Saddam". partly true except not quite enough. He was determined to misuse and "fix" intelligence to justify the ouster of Saddam.

I dunno...the rest of the article seems very positive for us. Innocent mistake or are they getting more subtle with the spin? or am I over reacting?

10. The media went for a long time without mentioning the
DSMinutes at all (and then claimed it was "old" news), so we'll take anything we can get; any and all coverage is good news for the most part. I'm hoping the country is waking up, and I'm also hoping this will snowball.

11. agree
I definitely agree, I'm probably just nitpicking here.

after all, the more people who even hear about it, the more who will look into it.

thanks
