Rice Says Administration Told Americans Iraq Would Be A “Generational
Rice Says Administration Told Americans Iraq Would Be A “Generational Commitment”

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked if “the Bush administration fairly be criticized for failing to level with the American people about how long and difficult this commitment will be?” Rice responded:

The administration, I think, has said to the American people that it is a generational commitment to Iraq.
That’s not true. To build support for the war the administration told the American people that the conflict in Iraq will be short and affordable.

Vice President Dick Cheney, 3/16/03:
My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators. . . . I think it will go relatively quickly. . . (in) weeks rather than months

Donald Rumsfeld, 2/7/03:
It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months.

Former Budget Director Mitch Daniels, 3/28/03:
The United States is committed to helping Iraq recover from the conflict, but Iraq will not require sustained aid…

Rice's lie:
We told you Iraq would be a generation-long commitment

1. Rice had better come up with a who, what, when, and where.
The entire quote and in what context. Come on, Mrs. Second Fiddle.

6. could we get this on the Daily Show
It's like another Frist moment with Terry Schiavo.... No, I didnt say that, really?

If Iraq was going to be a "generational commitment", then why wasnt it an election issue? Surely Americans want to have the choice: War with Iraq, Increased Deficit, Cut in Social Spending, Do Nothing with Alternative Energy, Cut Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security or Not. Isnt that what elections are about? Oh... silly me... I forgot... just a reality TV show to amuse the masses.

8. Unfortunately, she's right.
Now that she and her neo-con boss and his colonialist lackeys have stirred the hornet's nest in the middle-east, the "unintended consequences" will keep us in the sandpit for generations. Either, trying to hold on to it, or trying to get out of it.

The whole region is now a timebomb set ticking by pure the pure hubris of the geniuses who expected the Iraqis and their neighbors to accept WalMart as a substitute for their own countries.

anti war people told them that it would be a long term stay and that it would create more terrorists. That is what happened, we were right and now they will hate us for generations.

29. Of course they will. The "Stab in the back." chorus is already tuning up.
Just like Vietnam, "We coulda' won, 'cept for the traitor hippies and Jane Fonda".

They'll throw up another monument to the cannon-fodder and look all pious and shed crocodile tears over the corpses they sent to kill and die.

20. I don't believe a word the bitch says but one thing for sure the conflict
with the middle east will be with us for generations thanks to this regime and their illegal invasion of a sovereign Muslim country for personal profit.

The Muslim people will not forget what has happened to them and they will wait as long as time to invoke revenge on the tyrant from the west.
George w. bu$h will live in History as the one to ignite the middle east furor on the world, that will be his legacy. The War Monger!

22. Call Fox News About the Lie
Contact Fox News tollfree at 1-888-369-4762. You can suggest stories or note errors in their reports. I let them know that Condi lied and no one questioned her on it!

Then I suggested they do a story on the largest deception of the American people in our history.

I'm sure if they think ratings will go up by reporting this, they would do it in a hearbeat.

27. Once again, Rice confuses "Americans" with "the big stockholders"
Have no doubts that the latter was told it wold be a generational commitment, assuring them plenty of profits for decades. They were told this as the hat was passed for more campaign $$.

If the junta had told AMERICANS it would be a generational commitment, there would have been a few million more folks taking to the streets. What they told AMERICANS was a two week conflict and flowers thrown before our brave troops.
