Guckert & Conyers' access to the "peoples' house"
Guckert, an uncredentialed "journalist", got into the WH >200 times over a year and these weasels send out a flunky and don't even open the iron gates for a member of Congress.

Is * a racist, a coward or......???

4. Oh, Conyers is used to this treatment from our fearful leader.

Let's take a little trip down memory lane, shall we?
I believe it was in October of last year....

The Asshole-in-Chief had dodged the CBC for TWO AND A HALF YEARS until they took this measure:

http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/2763.html

"The caucus members got to see Bush only after showing up at the White House gate and refusing to leave until the president agreed to meet with them, according to the group's leader.

The session came about after the White House declined the group's repeated requests for meetings, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), chairman of the 39-member caucus, said after the debate Wednesday.

Last February, he said, the group wanted to meet with Bush to discuss the crisis in Haiti and called White House chief of staff Andrew H. Card Jr. to tell him, "We're coming to the White House." About 20 members of the caucus then boarded a bus at the Capitol and traveled up Pennsylvania Avenue.

"We were not necessarily welcomed guests," Cummings said, suggesting that hard feelings may have lingered after a number of black lawmakers challenged Bush's election when the Electoral College votes were being certified in January 2001.

But WAIT. It gets even better:

Caucus members were greeted by Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and national security advisor Condoleezza Rice. But they were told flatly, "The president is not on the premises," recalled Candice Tolliver, the group's communications director.

Caucus members then said they wouldn't leave until they could meet with Bush. Fifteen minutes later, the president showed up.

So, in answer to your question, "Is * a racist, a coward or......???"
my response is, "YES."

13. And they said he wasn't there
Ha. He probably knows what they want. I don't know if he's racists or not but it's apparent he knows how they work and knew what they'd be there for and it wasn't for him. He probably didn't want to have to put up with whatever they wanted. What a bastard. I noticed on the DSM rally when Conyers delivered the papers it took them a bit to get to the gate and they didn't let him deliver the papers or the people with him but the one's who came to the gate. It's obvious the white house is no longer the public's house.

5. You make a very good point.. Hadn't thought of that connection...maybe
this needs to be sent to Howie Kurtz, Dana Milbank, and the rest of the Media Whores. Conyers Denied Access..Has to hand over 500,000 signatures to some WH Aid through Gate of WH while "Jimmy/Jeff" has pretty much "free run" of the WH...checking in or out at his own whims and descretion....

Interesting, isn't it... But, Rupugs don't know the meaning of "Hypocracy." They will have to learn it the hard way. :-(

6. You're dead on target. I had the same thought...great minds think alike
What a total embarassment. They made Conyers and co leave it there and then, like cowards, they sent out staff to pick them up. This is a sad say for democracy and civility.

However, I do have an answer to your implied question, why the let in Gannon/Guckert and not Conyers:

Gannon/Guckert was doing a job(s) they wanted done. I'll leave the rest to your imagination....uggh..."mental picture!"

11. You hit the nail on the head. Racist Smirko is a coward.
You hit out of the park the contrast between Smirk's treatment of a man helping cover up the truth and a man searching for the truth.

12. My email to Helen Thomas
Ms. Thomas,

The next time you attend a White House press conference or daily briefing, please ask why Jeff Guckert, an uncredentialed "journalist", had access to the White House >200 times, yet, when Rep. John Conyers delivered a petition to the White House bearing the signatures of 122 Representatives and 540,000 citizens, he was literally barred from entering the grounds.

... when he attempted to deliver the letter signed by several senators?

16. This is turning into something for Will Pitt to write about

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/25/cleland.swiftboat/

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- Representatives of both political parties Wednesday converged on Crawford Middle School in attempts to deliver messages -- in letter form -- about a campaign that is critical of the military record of Sen. John Kerry. Though neither letter wound up in the hands of its intended recipient, their bearers delivered their messages to dozens of members of the news media who served as the audience for the political theater.

The drama began unfolding Tuesday, when former Sen. Max Cleland made plans to fly to the presidential ranch to hand-deliver a letter to President Bush asking him to condemn commercials by the group that calls itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Upon his arrival at the ranch, Cleland -- who lost both legs and an arm during the Vietnam War -- was met by Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, himself a Vietnam veteran.

Patterson said Bush had asked him to accept the letter from Cleland. But the Georgia Democrat refused to hand it over. Instead, he said he wanted to deliver the letter personally to Bush or, barring that, to a member of the Secret Service. When he succeeded at neither, Cleland took the message to the news media. "These scurrilous attacks on John Kerry's credibility in war, courage and valor are false and George Bush is behind it," he said. "That's why I tried to deliver a letter to the president's home and hand it either to him or one of his aides."

The letter was signed by nine members of the U.S. Senate, all of them veterans, including a Medal of Honor recipient. (Text of letter) "The question is: Where is George Bush's honor? The question is: Where is his shame to attack a fellow veteran who has distinguished himself in combat?" Cleland asked.

The letter: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/25/cleland.letter/index.html

Dear President Bush,

We, the undersigned members of the United States Senate call on you to specifically condemn the recent attack ads and accompanying campaign which dishonor Senator John Kerry's combat record in the Vietnam War. These false charges represent the worst kind of politics, and we agree with both Senator John McCain and Senator Kerry that a firmly established service record in the United States Military is fully above reproach. As veterans of the armed services, we ask that you recognize this blatant attempt at character assassination, and publicly condemn it.

Our outrage over these advertisements and tactics has nothing to do with the tax code or campaign finance reform efforts of this nation. Our pain from seeing these slanderous attacks stems from something much more fundamental, that if one veteran's record is called into question, the service of all American veterans is questioned. This administration must not tacitly comply with unfounded accusations which have suddenly appeared 35 years after the fact, and serve to denigrate the service of a true American patriot. The veterans serving today should never have to expect this kind of treatment, when the wars of their generation have passed into history. We brothers and sisters in arms expect our Commander in Chief to stand up and reject this assault upon John Kerry's honor, the honor of American veterans and that of the United States Navy.

As you yourself have said, there is nothing complicated about supporting our troops, and the leaders of this nation should make it clear that the members of our military will not only be supported when they wear the uniform, but also when they return home to the land they fought to defend. Their valor and their wounds, both physical and psychological, make them heroes for as long as they live, a status which should not and must not change simply because they seek to enter public service. We Senators and Congressmen who wore the uniform served in different branches of the military and belong to different political parties, but we join together today to defend a fellow veteran from attacks we know to be false, and politically-motivated slander that has no place in our democratic process.

Mr. President, as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, we believe you owe a special duty to America's combat veterans when they are under false and scurrilous attacks. We hope you will recognize this duty, and speak out against this group and their efforts to smear the reputation of a man who has served this country nobly.

Call on this group to cease and desist. We can return this campaign season to a discussion of the issues on either side, and restore faith in the political system. As Americans, we should expect nothing less.

Sincerely,

Next CSPAN journal call-in, I certainly will be trying to get through and press this point.
