I finally got it today. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld appear to lack the
sense of right and wrong that is instilled in almost all of us. I see no remorse in them for all the lying, cheating, subversion, tortures, wars and simple inhumanity that they have unleashed on the world.

I wish there were someone who can tell us how it came to pass that we, who consider ourselves people who have done the right things can elevate to power single mindedly evil men who resemble our enemies of the past more than anyone in my lifetime. I am totally at a loss as to how we got taken in by these charlatans. Is there no relief in sight?

1. Correction: WE did not elevate them to power. WE did not
get taken in by them.

A bunch of stupid fuckers who voted Republican did, but WE did not.

4. Took you awhile, didn't it?
That's okay. It shows that you're a decent sort, to whom malice and chicanery are not natural instincts. Only crooks, thugs and True Believers can truly understand the Bush administration.

the true sign of sociopathy is a lack of empathy or sympathy or conflict. no remorse, no guilt, no compassion. just reptilian simplicity.

7. I've wondered the very same thing....
They don't think like us. It goes all the way back to Prescott Bush (GW's granddad) when he was an executive with a New York Bank and helped front a laundering account for the Nazis WHEN the war was in progress. Of course, it was shut down but, like son and grandson, the investigation just mysteriously went away. Prescott even became a senator after that where he fought tooth snd nail to keep the FDA from coming into existence.
All I can think is that they believe the ends justifies the means. And the ends are always power and profit.

9. BTW
as far as why anyone would vote for them I believe can be found in their belief that paying millions for propoganda is well worth it.
This is one thing they are right about.

10. They have astutely exploited our national weakness, racism, in their
drive for power.Even the stage managed terror event was designed to exploit the racist, xenophobic fears of Arabs as lecherously evil men sitting on top of a resource vital for our prosperity.

12. They are followers of Leo Strauss of the University of Chicago
who taught that the elite should control the masses through the use of the noble lie. All lies uttered by the elite to extract obedience from the masses are noble lies.

So it makes it easy for them to lie like they do once they believe this. Hitler also believed this and anyone who says we shouldn't compare them to Nazis don't know what they are talking about.

17. Strauss
Can also be applied in a LIBERAL way.
He is NOT a Rightwing thinker. Here are some LIBERAL thinkers thinking on straussian ideas.

21. Like the Bible I guess you can interpret the words of a guru
to make it mean what you want it to mean. Leo Strauss was no liberal. He thought the masses were asses and needed to be led by the smart ones. What he didn't address was the fact that the self-appointed smart ones would one of these days produce the most evil cabal in recent history.

14. Sociopaths.
Surely you got it long before today.

How it came to pass is simple: a long, presistent, and steady process of right wing corruption of the American information network. The press is seen as biased towards elitist liberals so it is dismissed. Liberals have been successfully branded as valueless, immoral taxers without the spine to defend anything. People who think too much are not trusted. Conservatism is viewed as the only place for God fearing, decent folk.

Now there are enough ignorant (and proudly so) sheeple that will blindly follow the lead of any right wing zealot.

There is no relief in sight.

15. This can happen in any country.
And the US hasn't always been on the side of right. There's a lot of ugly in our past, too.

But these guys are turning out to be the worst of the worst. No one in US governmental history tops them. THAT'S the bad part. Just watching to see how bad they get. Where is the bottom for them? They're pretty close to it now.

I always thought if democracy were dismantled, it'd be really obvious. You know, something really BIG and everyone would know it. I never thought about how it could be subtle and slow, a shifting and shifting that takes place right under people's noses but most are too busy watching reality TeeVee and reading People magazine to notice. That's how it's done, that's how democracy dies--tiny bite by tiny bite.

20. They are Golem thrown up during the death throes of monopoly
capitalism. Their imperative is simply to devour everything, by any means possible. They would destroy the air and distribute oxygen according to wealth and status. Scarcity and impoverishment are the natural consequence when capital can only expand through fratricide.

They found/created people like the PNACers and the leaders of the fundie cults which think and act in accord with the survival needs of the the now dominant sector of capital. These people personify and mirror and act on the half of automatons that have no heart and tolerate no boundaries in their drive to turn everything and everyone into a means for profit and the accumulation of yet more capital. Being a con is a part of the job description.

As for fooling the people, well, that's a part of the operation that has been underway for a long time. Buying acquiescence through social progress in general is now considered to be an obsolete mechanism for societal control. Fear and deception are now the preferred tools, and they work with many people, especially when they are kept ignorant

23. I would use the term anti-American to describe them. Their contempt
for our Constitution and its insistence that our rulers obey the expressed will of the people makes them anti-American in their core belief.
