1. I'm not qualified.
"*Must not be an active or retired member of the Armed Forces"

Wouldn't want any actual former carreer men deciding who should be drafted...

10. Actually it's the same reason
Wes Clark could not be sec of defense until many years after he's out of the service... It stems from fear in WW2 and earlier of military people getting in positions of civilian authority... and how that has many times led to a military coup of the civilian government.

Don't take it personally. It's just a protection against any want-to-be hitlers that would like to use the military in a coup.

2. Sorry if I take a job like that I would have to do it right
Which means I would be totally open to any evidence that one is a CO but I am not going to stoop down and become as bad as the Republicans and sending them to the draft just beause they are Republicans.

7. Or say that everyone who comes through is "unfit"
And still object without having any blood on your hands.

5. What's with this:
"Men must have registered with the Selective Service, except those born from March 29, 1957 through December 31, 1959."

Is there a reason for this requirement?

11. I have no idea but here is a theory
Could that have been the last years before the Polio vaccine was made mandatory? This meaning that those who turned 18 from those years after the Selective Service Act had been passed might not have been inoculated.

12. No--it was those years that are the time when
No--it was those years that are the time when the draft ended and the Selective service started up again registering--they would have been 18 between the end of the vietnam era draft and the beginning of the new selective service.

6. A couple of years ago, a DUer was appointed to his local draft board
He/she wrote a letter requesting the duty. He/she was quickly added.

A few weeks passed.

The newest member of the local draft board was contacted by a person holding the military rank of general. Would he/she consider an additional assignment as a sitting member of an appellate board?

Last I heard, that DUer sits on both.

14. There are a number of pacifists...
sitting on draft boards, and it's been talked about for years in war-resisting organizations. I've considered it as a Quaker and member of several pacifist organizations myself, but I just prefer to not get involved.

They're not exactly moles, but use the position to mke sure CO applications get properly considered, and perhaps a little grease applied.

Note that for the time being, nothing is really being done at all by these boards except for some training and the occasional meeting. Unless the draft is reinstated, there are no classifications. And, of course, no one is getting drafted.
