Welcome to the Neighborhood (new reality TV show from ABC)
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 12:57 PM by kgfnally
A new reality series in which three white, self-described "Christian" families get to pick their new neighbors from among a group of minority families is already drawing fire.

And it hasn't even aired yet.

The show is called "Welcome to the Neighborhood" and it's coming to ABC July 10.

"I will not tolerate a homosexual couple coming into this neighborhood," one of the neighbors, Jim Stewart, says on the show about one of the candidate families — a gay couple with an adopted baby.

"I want a family similar to what we are," asserts another neighbor, John Bellamy, in a statement that would seem to dismiss at least six out of the seven candidate families.

much more...

So is this sick... or will it show the bigots for what they are?

Discuss.

1. OMG how fucking terrible
But I want to say that I am deeply ashamed that the "minority couples" would even submit to this indignation.
They need a healthy dose of self-respect.
Something tells me that this entire show is a farce--that the gay couple will not be gay, etc.
I just can't see someone in this day and time willing to participate in such an arrogant display of discrimination.

2. Before we dismiss this
the tattooed and pierced guy is a repub, and the wasps are amazed. It may be a learning tool on not judging a book by it's cover. I won't watch it, but many people will, and it might be a good thing.

3. it will show them for the bigots they are
and from those quotes, it's not the network setting these people up either

they're doing a good job of making fools of themselves all by themselves

4. Im a sucker for some reality TV shows...
I dont miss Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

I love that show. I love that a deserving family gets a new house. Now, I dont know what happens after they get that house...I like to believe that they dont get killed with property taxes and upkeep and a cursory google search doesnt heed any disaster stories.

I liked Wife Swap. At the end of two weeks it was refreshing that often people's lives were changed for the better.

I'll watch this show too, because I tend to think alot of these close minded families will end up with a change of heart on alot of matters.

I do however detest the surviors and bachlor/bachelorette drivel.
