There are fucking sneaky cowards on both right and left
During the last elections, I called congressman Rob Simmons a whole bunch of names, right to his face, because he claimed he couldn't make the fucking Republican office in Washington stop calling me on the phone with taped, negative messages about his opponent. He's a fucking Congressman; I was not about to believe it. I thought it was a cowardly ex cuse on his part.

Now, from the other side, I get a taped message today from some clowns who call themselves "We the People" and claim to be in Washington, urging me to call Simmons' office and complain about the DeLay money thing.

And the fucking cowards have Caller ID blocked so I can't get them on the phone and tear some skin off them for calling my office with a tape machine while I'm trying to work.

Republican or Democrat, I don't care, leave me the fuck alone. Don't call me with a taped message, and don't be so sleazy as to block your number from the Caller ID, or so dishonest as Simmons was to claim "Someone else is doing it and I can't stop them."

Either you're brave enough to stand up and say "Yes, I'm the one trying to get this message across," or you're a scumbag. In my opinion.

I thought the Democrats were supposed to be the party fighting the sleazebaggery that is the Republican Party? I'm disappointed.

PS: Does anyone know who these "We the People" Clowns actually are? Google doesn't seem to know about any DC-based "nonpartisan" "We the People" organization.

4. I really appreciate the info, but I don't think this is the same
"We the People." The website you linked seems to be one of those lunatic-fringe (and usually right-wing) "Hey, the constitution says we don't have to pay taxes, and we'll show you how to not pay taxes and get away with it, and furthermore, all the state laws that say you have to pay taxes are actually unconsitutional, too, and you don't really have to pay any taxes at all to anyone" type of outfit. The quotes you pulled from their home page are a smokescreen to cover up their real purpose.

I'll call them tomoroow anyway, if I can find a phone number (since there isn't one on their website) and see if it really was them who called.

Thanks again for the research.

8. Oops, sloppy research. Sorry, 'bout that.

One of the things I like about using my cell rather than a land line is that I'm not subjected to too much tele-marketing. Good luck with this.

2. I have no idea who "We the People" are.
I am however, one of the people you just called a sleaze bag who has my phone number blocked from caller ID. I blocked it because the phone company was charging people who wanted to receive caller ID services, but I, as the possessor of that data, was receiving no fee or royalty for disclosing that data to the phone company so they could resell and profit from my data.

Frankly, I'd really much rather have no phone, than to pay every month for a service that's mostly of benefit for bosses and sales people, but for which "I" need "to pay" for. I suspect you also would rather have no phone.

3. I did NOT say that YOU are a sleazebag! You have every right,

as an individual, to block your caller ID, for whatever reason you want to: Philosophical, financial, just on principle, or for privacy.

It's only sleazy if you harass other people by making spam phone calls (which is exactly what those people are doing), and block your caller ID so they can't complain.

OK?

It appears I misunderstood you. Sorry.

I'm still thinking of chucking my phone permanently, but right now the only inexpensive broadband I can get is DSL which requires a landline, AFAIK.

Still, every time that phone rings my mind races, completely taken out of the task it previously was focused on. I've actually thought of disconnecting the ringer completely....

6. Well, if you are trying to concentrate, you can
do what I do (and I also do this at night): Shut the ringer off, and turn the volume all the way down on the answering machiine.

You won't hear a thing.

Funny how people are with phones: Back in the Dark Ages, before Ihad an answering machine, I used to be able to ignore the phone ringing if I didn't feel like talking to anyone at the time. If anyone was visiting at the time, they were astounded--"How can you stand to not know who's calling you, and what they want?"

I always figured if it was important tnough, they'd call right back, and that would tell me it was urgent. And it did usually work that way.
