Hardball.with David Gregory has Michael Smith! Trying for "Rathergate!
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:42 PM by KoKo01
So, Gregory has Smith on and he's giving a good interview with Smith after mentioning the "originals were destroyed" (which is totally different from Rather with Bush crap) but Gregory is following up and allowing Smith to explains how he's different from Rather with "documents" but what the whole deal is about.

Did anyone else see it...I'm trying not to spin it...but I think Gregory is much better than Tweety on this...if "Tweety wasn't on vacation."

Just my opinon that Smith was really good...and Gregory gave him TIME that Tweety wouldn't have.

I thought, so far, that Smith was EXCELLENT....Now Gregory says he will interview Woolsey and David Kay as a "follow up" in the DSM's.

I don't know how they will spin this but Smith was great, imho...of course.

2. Well I saw and understood it, but again, for so many its going to be
like too much trouble to get it off the back burner. Those in the public anyway. Its coming but to take it all in will take time and repeated exposure.

5. I wonder if MSNBC management noticed that Gregory
is a much better host than Matthews? I hope they did.

6. Does Smith get to rebut? I don't think he does.

Which makes me suspicious of a trap. We're about to see. . .

11. Actually he countered Gregory and made a Great Case! He didn't back
down when Gregory asked him about why he destroyed the originals. But, my read of the whole thing was that Smith only destroyed "photocopies" of the "originals" and that whoever leaked it still retains the originals which is different from what Dan Rather had.

10. What's with this "originals were destroyed"?
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:48 PM by Straight Shooter
Lynn the Dem had a very clearcut post earlier wherein Michael Smith had given a detailed explanation that the originals were NOT DESTROYED, that he photocopied them, typed them from the photocopies so as not to reveal the letterhead, and returned the originals to the anonymous source. I'm paraphrasing and I hope I got the sequence right.

I'm confused. Were the originals returned, or not?

12. You are correct! It's only the Repug/Wingers who are trying to tye this
into what happened with Rather. And, Gregory and Smith managed to "slay that dragon untruth" nicely. IMHO....

14. I love when David Gregory sits in for Tweety...
He's professional. He asks good questions. He gives his interviewees time to answer. He's quite attractive and well-spoken.

Davvid Gregory is a real delight!

15. Me too. He's a reporter whereas Tweety adores
his status as Beltway insider. He just repeats the common wisdom and eschews thinking. That's why Tweety has his SNL impersonator on three times a year to ask him how he does him so well....so he can hear how complex he is and play tape of himself being lampooned as if it justifies his existence.

18. Tweety has a tv show
so that Tweety can show off.

That's all he wants to do.

He's rarely interested in what anyone else thinks or has to say. That's why I find him so hard to watch.
