The Freepers really live in a parallel universe (re: Iran)
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:03 PM by StevieM
I saw some old posts over there while doing some research. I was shocked to hear their version of history. Here goes:

1) They say that the Shah was overthrown by Carter and the French. Of course, we all know that Carter was a good friend to the Shah, many would argue to a fault. And it was the Republicans, under Eisenhower, who overthrew the legitimately elected government of Iran, led by Mohammad Mossadegh.

2) They say that the Islamic radicals are allies, perhaps synonomous, with the Communists. It was an Islamic-Communist revolution. How dumb are these people? Islamic fundamentalism and Communism are totally incompatible. They hate each other, like Hitler's Nazis and Stalinist Communists hated each other. Khomeini even bashed the Soviet Union. (I'm certainly not an Islamic fundamentalist or a Communist, but I think the facts should be kept straight).

3) They say that the Shah never did anything wrong to the Iranian people.

4) They say that Iran was never a colony.

5) They say that the Shah's son, Reza Pahlavi, who lives in Maryland, is the crown prince and rightful ruler of Iran.

Look, I like Reza Pahlavi, from what I've read he seems like a friendly guy with some good ideas. I don't believe the sins of the father should be visited on the son. Mr Pahlavi seems committed to Iranian multi-party democracy. If he were ever allowed to run for President of Iran I might even work for him. But he doesn't have an automatic claim to the throne. The U.S. should be supporting anyone who has support from the Iranian people, and it should be up to them to decide who their leader is, whether it is Mr. Pahlavi or someone else.

I was just shocked to hear some of their comments, it was so much more then the usual conservative rhetoric. Do they really believe this stuff? Do they know how insane they sound? Don't even get me started on all the posters who had hateful taglines at the bottom of their posts, like: "Liberal=the antithesis of freedom and patriotism"

1. Observations
I use to troll a little bit at FR. They have always been messed up, but they are much worse now. Here are the reasons (1) they kicked out anybody who was half intelligent, therefore had some sort of independent thought. (2) If anything is anti-Democrat, anti-progressive, it is right. (3) Most of these people live in bunkers and homeschool their kids, so they pollute them even more, and only read out of the King James. Very sad. In some cases I think they need child services to monitor these people. One time, and I wish I still had the evidenced one guy was advocating beating your wives. Only a few sane people denounced him. They have probably all since been banned.

2. Very sad indeed
And if the guy in Maryland is the ruler of Iran, according to them, then why the hell is he in Maryland and not in Iran? How can he rule a country half way around the world? Duh! Also I don't know why they don't check out other version's of the Bible. All the Christians I know encourage it. Sometimes other version's have different words that have the same meaning but easier to get the picture and you can compare/contrast. I personally like the NIV (New International Version).

4. NIV
NIV is good because it is a more like a paraphrased version, in the sense they can give a closer meaning by not doing it word for word since there are cultural differences, etc. The NIV is a solid translation, as well as the NASB, which is the best word for word translation.

Anyways this one Freeper was spouting that Satanists support other translations. And the King James is the only God inspired texts, which makes you wonder what he thought about the original Greek or Hebrew. It was a retarded arguement since there has been additional manuscripts found after King James.

5. Well, he can't very well return to Iran at the moment.....
I don't think he'd be alive very long if he did. Like many Iranian expatriates, including one wonderful woman who volunteered on the campaign I worked on last year, Mr. Pahlavi is pressing for change from abroad, hoping to go home someday.

I despise this government in Iran and hope it is toppled. If we had to invade someone, I wish it had been Iran. The people love us there, they would have been thrilled with our arrival and we would have been out in six months. I realize that point of view isn't popular on this board, but it is how I truly feel in my heart. One of the reasons I like posting here is because people are so much more tolerant of opposing viewpoints. The Free Republic was just scary. One guy said that the Shah was a despot and he was promptly denounced as a dangerous ally of liberals. This "radical" was the same guy who had the tagline I mentioned above: "liberalism=the antithesis of freedom and patriotism"

3. You see, I didn't know that....
I was totally unprepared for what was coming my way. I honestly thought that it was just some conservative web site that would talk about tax cuts, supporting the war in Iraq, etc. But some of these people are disturbed. Many of them seemed genuinely mentally ill.

Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:50 PM by flaminbats
Carter caused inflation and terrorism, Kennedy caused the Bay of Pigs, Johnson caused Vietnam, F.D.R. caused Pearl Harbor, Truman created the world police, Wilson caused Communism, Gore began the speech police, and Clinton caused 9/11...BushII began compassion, BushI won the Cold War, Reagan caused the hostages to be released, Nixon ended the Vietnam War, and Eisenhower won WWII.

Isn't fantasy great?
