Bolton was spying on POWELL?
This is what was alleged by some CBS correspondent just now (talking to Julie Chen).. Is this one of the names that would have turned up had the administration released the requested documents?

oh....how...embarrassing..

(recess appointment is looking more likely to me, probability by repetition)

1. No shocker there, Powell was undercut from day 1.
What an end to a marvelous career. That's the thing about evil, it injures everything it touches.

2. I believe it was Bill Richardson (gov. of N.M.) who said that Bolton
had asked for the transcripts of phone conversations between himself and Powell. If I am remembering correctly, it was primarily discussions about North Korea (?).

3. Makes sense to me
Bolton was Cheney's boy in the State Department and Powell and Cheney couldn't stand each other. Maybe they were afraid that Powell would grow a spine and turn on them.

5. If he would see the light, and come over from the dark side
and spill all those delicious beans... He would be a hero. (I would settle for some high profile grovelling and apologizing and a complete change of modus operandi, if he promised to never ever associate with the known criminals again, and to always work on the side of goodness)
