Confronting a Bushbot this AM

I stopped at my favorite coffee shop on my way to work today and ran into someone I used to work with about five or six years ago. We chatted for a few minutes, caught up with each other, exchanged business cards, then his latte was ready and he left. I waited until my drink was ready and I walked out to the parking lot. There I found my former co-worker leaning on my car, furiously writing a note.

"Rick! What are you up to?" I said.

Rick looked at me and smiled and said, "I'm just informing this guy that Kerry lost the election and he'd better get over it!"

I have a Volvo station wagon with a Veterans for Kerry and a Kerry/Edwards sticker on the back, as well as the unit insignia for my partner's old unit and an Army sticker.

I said, "Won't you be embarassed if he shows up while you're doing that?"

And Rick said, "No, in fact I'd tell him off to his face,"

When he said that, I fished my keys out of my purse and unlocked my car with the remote. His jaw literally dropped. I smiled and said, "I may not be over the election yet, but it takes a real asshole to put an anonymous note on someone else's car because of their bumperstickers," And with that, I stepped into my car and drove away.

not only funny.... you made a great point.

First - you took the "anonymous Liberal" sense away (after years of rush - some folks literally have some odd mental image of a caricature of a liberal) - and reminded this guy - that we are real folks - and sometimes even likeable...

Second - you stopped him in his tracks - so he really probably did feel like an *ssh*le.

11. Actually, I've been expecting something like this since last year...

I have been kind of honing my response should the need ever arise, since I live in a conservative area. If I hadn't thought about it in advance I probably would have said something witty like, "Asshole,".

Second time I read this, that comment really bothered me, per the sentiment.

Not "so get over it!" (the old taunt to Gore supporters like myself)... which sounds more like a sneering 'move on...' comment.

but "better get over it" sorta carries a bit of a warning tone... are the rightwing media talking heads starting to get threatening in their rhetoric or something?

a few months ago there was a posting about Kerry-Edwards bumper stickers and a suggested response to those who had a problem with it...

I still have a Kerry bumper sticker on my car, and I've seen quite a few cars on my way to/from work still sporting the same.

the Resident-Bush-Supporter at work did ask when I was going to take the bumper sticker off as Kerry lost the election.

so - scanning back into my memory banks I pulled out this line (posted by a Du'er a few months back) "well, the south lost the war over a hundred years ago and people still have confederate flags on their vehicles..."
