Bush: any time there's a death, I grieve, obviously
he's downright Lincolnesque. Lincoln was famous for thinking about the Civil War "every day." And then there's the famous line from the Gettysburg Address: "duh! of course it's bad all these people died!"

Bush: It is tough in Iraq

US President says Iraq on his mind 'every day' amid mounting pressure to begin withdrawing troops.

WASHINGTON - US President George W. Bush said Monday that the Iraq war was on his mind "every single day" and vowed to complete the mission "for the sake of world peace" despite calls for a US troop withdrawal.

"I think about Iraq every day -- every single day. Because I understand we have troops in harm's way and I understand how dangerous it is there," Bush said at a news conference after a summit with European Union leaders.

"And the reason it's dangerous is because there's these cold- blooded killers that will kill Americans or kill innocent Iraqis in order to try to drive us out of Iraq," he said.

<snip>

Bush said he would "continue thinking about it (Iraq), because I understand we've got kids in harm's way. And I worry about their families. And, obviously, any time there's a death, I grieve."

10. Can you give me an example Mr. President?
Dubya: "Excuse me?"

Me: Can you give me a single example of you grieving?

Dubya: "Well of course I grieve."

Me: Can you name some of the individuals you've grieved for?

Him: "Freedom is on the march."

Me: So should I take that as a no?

Him: Well, as I've said, I grieve any time there's a death. Next question.

11. Anyone Know If He's Written A War Widow?
One of Abraham Lincoln's greatest acts of compassion was to write to the widows of lost soldiers. Other Presidents have done this as well.

We know Bunnypants doesn't attend funerals, is loathe to step anywhere near a military hospital unless it's been scrubbed to photo-op clean, but has this oxygen thief ever spent the 10 minutes to sit down and write to a mother or wife who has just lost someone in his war?

I kinda know what the answer will be.

26. You know who HAS written letters?
Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones (R) of North Carolina....he's also recently come out against the war. His home district in Eastern NC is home to a lot of the marines and soldiers that are dying every day over there.

30. I Know...
I'm hearing there's a lot of rumbling among Congressmen in districts dominated by military bases (especially Marines and Army) about the occupation and the toll it's taking on their areas. Besides the rising toll and continued "mission creep", there's also the cuts in medical and other benefits that have hurt military famlies at their most vulnerable and now base closings.

Welcome to DU

12. Sounds like when I was a kid and my folks would ask me
whether I ever gave a thought to my financial future, and I would hem and haw and say, "Well, sure, obviously I do because it is really important." But I didn't give a shit. I only thought about having fun.

22. I can't stand the sound of his voice
So whenever Chimpy's on TV I hit mute, and all I can hear is Mel Brooks:

"Gentlemen! We must act! We must protect our phoney baloney jobs!"

I'm still in :wow: mode from yesterday when he called the EU guy a "piece of work."

He has no clue how truly offensive he is.

19. What's so obvious about it, Mr. pResident?
The only thing that's been obvious during your entire occupation of the Oval Office is that you or your people will say anything to deflect the slightest criticism.

31. He's *ALMOST* telling the truth here
"And the reason it's dangerous is because there's these cold- blooded killers that will kill Americans or kill innocent Iraqis in order to try to drive us out of Iraq," he said.

If he'd just change that last bit to
cold-blooded killers that will kill Americans or kill innocent Iraqis in order to steal the oil and plunder the country.
