Just what was the chaplain trying to say? |
|
In todays House opening prayer, the chaplain used these words for his prayer:
"Lord God, your love is consistent and deep. You must have a way of remaining in love with us even when we neglect your presence or disobey your command. Otherwise, how could you forgive us so readily? (said something that wasn't picked up by the mic) deeper conversion of heart. Be present to the members of the House of Representatives and all who work for this noble institution today. Hold out a strong hand to those who are weak or faint-hearted. Be patient with the bold and the arrogant. By your spirit, enable all to be patient, forgiving and understanding to one another. So that they may be ready to receive the same gracious gifts from you in the same measure they have treated others. You alone are the lasting judge of all and the full measure of goodness to which no other can be compared. For you are Lord, both now and forever. Amen."
I found this to be an odd prayer. Just who is the weak and faint-hearted and who is the bold and the arrogant of which he speaks? Was the chaplain playing a little politics with his prayer today?
I will admit that I am not very religious myself, so I don't usually pay a lor of attention to the opening prayer offered by the chaplain. This one just struck me as a general smack down of the house.
It was followed by the first one minute speech, delivered by Candice Miller, that was so full of hate and venom toward Durbin, that I realized that she must not pay much attention to the opening prayers either.
Anyway, just what was he trying to say with that prayer? Discuss please. I would like to hear others opinions about it.
