Frist tells Durbin to apologize on Senate floor
By James G. Lakelyand Stephen Dinan
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
June 21, 2005

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist yesterday demanded that Sen. Richard J. Durbin make a "formal apology" on the floor of the Senate for comparing U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazi and Soviet regimes and that he strike his remarks from the Congressional Record.

2. I hope Durbin has the spine to hold out.
These preposterous hypocrites who call them selves moral conservatives need to be stood up to by a true patriot who will not allow the rovian methods to consume the constitutional process which this country was built on.

5. Durbin should ask Frist what country he thinks that report describes.
If you didn't know that FBI report was about the USA, which country would you believe it best described? Or does Frisk think the report is an accurate description of the USA today?

6. After you, "Doctor" Frist
Offering expert diagnoses on the basis of heavily edited videotapes is not just a lapse in judgment, but a violation of your professional ethics.

So, right after your apology for your complicity in the Terri Schiavo monkey business, Durbin will apologize for the fact that you can't understand plain fucking English.

7. Will Frist also ask Rick Santorum to apologize?
Didn't Santorum compare Democratic tactics to the Nazis a few weeks back?

And, don't forget the House where Tom DeLay compared the EPA to the Gestapo...

8. Those who have attacked Durbin on the Senate floor are the ones

who need to apologize. I really think the Republicans are miscalculating on this (like they did on Schiavo). The American people are not comfortable with this. I hope the Democrats are simply giving them some rope.

9. Did the GOP'ers Apologize for these statements?

From http://www.dailykos.com and http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Questions_of_hypocrisy_in_Republican_attacks_on_senator_who_raised_Nazis_in_Guantanamo_c_0620.html

But senior Republicans—including Chairman of the Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman—have not apologized, and have in fact defended, comparisons of Democrats to Nazis in the past.

Last June, then-Bush campaign manager Mehlman defended an ad that contained footage of Adolf Hitler interspersed with images of Democratic leaders Al Gore, Dick Gephart and John Kerry. The campaign defended the images, saying they were taken from a video on MoveOn.org.
...
White House confidante Grover Norquist, known for his blistering attacks on U.S. taxes, likened the estate tax to the “morality of the Holocaust” in October 2003.
...
A Republican senator invoked Nazism when criticizing stem cell research last year.

"We certainly have all seen the rejections of Nazi Germany's abuses of science,” Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) declared regarding his opposition to stem cell research last October. “As a society and a nation, there ought to be some limit on what we can allow or should allow."
...
Sen. James Inhofe said Oct. 11, 2004 that Kyoto "would deal a powerful blow on the whole humanity similar to the one humanity experienced when Nazism and communism flourished."
...
Sen. Tom Cole (R-OK) dragged out Hitler to hit Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

"Cole Claims a Vote Against Bush Is a Vote For Hitler," KTOK radio in Oklahoma blared last year.
...
Others, too, have likened Democratic policy to Nazism. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) compared a Democratic tax plan to Nazi law in 2002.

"Now, forgive me, but that is right out of Nazi Germany,” Gramm said. “I don't understand ... why all of a sudden we are passing laws that sound as if they are right out of Nazi Germany."

19. This Is Where We Turn The Worm
While I know it won't happen, in my perfect world, I'd be sending a ton of Democrats out and demanding that Frist appologize to Michael Schaivo.

Durbins words do little but fuel hate radio covens, Frist's words...including that gross mis-diagnosis of Mrs. Schaivo, ruined the last remnants of that man's credibility. Also reminding people of where Frist stands on that issue and several others wouldn't be a bad thing.

It's time we frame the debate. Ask the questions. We don't need to answer them, just ask...force them to come up with answers...and when they hem and haw (which they always do), then we pounce.

asks for an apology firt,.....of the misrepresentation of his comment on the senate floor, before he apologizes. so all clearly know what he is apologizing for. what frist is asking durbin to apologize for is a smearing by him and his party and the media

isnt that a joke

22. Did he tell him to get down on his knees on the floor?
No apologies! Don't even use the word or the media will take it out of context. Durban has nothing to apologize for. He should say something like, "I know some want to misrepresent my remarks for political purposes, and anyone is entitled to say WHY they do not agree with my remarks, but it is indefensible to demand that I not say what I think. That would be a disservice to my country."
