A liberal's defense of Fox News

By Susan Estrich

LOS ANGELES – I work for Fox News as a commentator. I say whatever I want. I'm the blonde on the left, figuratively and literally - the one who's usually smiling because it's TV, not the Supreme Court or Congress, and I find civility more effective in any event.

Besides, why shouldn't I be smiling? Prior to working for Fox, I worked for ABC and NBC, spent a lot of time at CNN, and almost ended up at CBS. I worked for a bunch of local stations in Los Angeles and had a talk-radio show at KABC for six years. In other words, I'm fortunate enough to have been around, and Fox News is the best place I've ever worked. ....

I also work there because of my respect for Roger Ailes, the man who created it, and hired me, and to whom I am extremely loyal for reasons having nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with integrity. ....

But I'm hard-pressed to think of anybody who'll tell you privately that in the midst of debates about such issues as Social Security and the deficits, it's a good idea for the party leader to be turning himself into the issue by engaging in class and religious warfare.

This is precisely what congressional leaders and Dean agreed Dean wouldn't do when he became party chair. He was supposed to leave the message to them. ....

3. Loyalty to Roger Ailes is totally inconsistent
with speaking the truth or strongly advocating a liberal position. It is hardly surprising that one of the chief strategists of the Dukakis debacle feels right at home among the propagandists of the RW.

4. Estrich isn't a LIBERAL. She's a dyed in the wool republican.
She LOVES bush.

Who does she think she's kidding?

6. issues such as Social Security and the deficits DO reflect class warfare
susie made her money, now all she does is suck her teeth and complain when others demand economic justice.

this woman is a scoundrel. her remark on dean engaging in class and religious warfare is right out of the GOP playbook. it appears that she has no empathy for those americans who point out that the current economic system is leaving behind the majority of americans.

strange, when someone mentions the affects of class warfare, they are chastised for engaging in it.

Calling yourself a Liberal while walking lockstep with Bush et al only shows you don't walk the talk.

8. That article is one of the most disingenuous pieces of twaddle I've read
in a very long time. Estrich, I guess, has to rely on self-deception to give her a reason to get up in the morning. It'd be sad if it wasn't so nauseating.

9. Pu-lease Ms. Ostrich, just go away.
Typical stealth neocon. (Remember, neocons can be Dems too...it is a party neutral philosophy, just happens that they were able to hijack the old Republican party for their agenda.) Saying she is a liberal, then saying she is Roger Doger's pet...then spouting the neocon line.

F off Estrich.
