Rush Joins Debate on Downing Street
Rush Limbaugh has decided to start covering the Downing Street Minutes. He wasn’t interested in the memos when they were first revealed and contained damaging allegations about the pre-war intelligence on Iraq. But since right-wing rumor mongers have recently decided to take a shot at destroying the reputation of the British journalist (Michael Smith) who reported on the memos, he thought it would be a good time to weigh in.

Limbaugh: “I purposely haven’t talked about this Downing Street memo much because, frankly, it didn’t interest me. And, you know, if it doesn’t interest me I’m not going to talk about it. And the reason it didn’t interest me is because it was just another one of these ginned up things by the libs, and it looks like it’s got some similarities to Bill Burkett and the forged documents of CBS and Rathergate… It seems to me this name Michael Smith, seems to me that there was a guy by the same name who worked with Mary Mapes at CBS during this whole Rathergate.”

As reported on ThinkProgress yesterday, CBS has denied that this is the same Michael Smith who worked for Mapes. But the right feels they are entitled to spread whatever rumors they want based on scant evidence. The good news is that Rush seems to be joining the call for the White House to be asked whether they in fact dispute the authenticity of the memos.

1. Of course the truth wouldn't interest Limbaugh.
I hate Limbaugh.

The great right wing smear machine rides in to action. I guess that Lush received his DSM talking points from the RNC today.

3. Shoot the Messenger
Never deal with the topic at hand. Just discredit the journalist or any other source. I knew this would happen eventually. I know these people too well.

4. And there's the real danger with Rush Limbaugh
Technically, he did not spread a rumor or lie. "the name Michael Smith" and "there was a guy by the same name" offers connections by his listeners that are untrue and unfounded, but he would never revisit the statement and make it clear.

So now, all of his listeners are at the water cooler spouting their "did you know that (fill in the listener's erroneous conclusion)..." and citing Rush Limbaugh as the credible source. Analysis of his words would show he did not state the juicy water cooler gossip being thrown around.

But, Limbaugh knows EXACTLY what he's doing and how to do it. It's divisive and damaging to our country and he's doing it intentionally.

8. You obviously have a strong stomach.
I can't stand to listen to him anymore. It makes me physically ill. I tried really hard, but it was just too much. Same with Hannity.

9. Al Franken's got more listeners these days, and this is why.
I think our terror over 9/11 has ebbed and our bloodthirst, with it. Now, we're sick of being used and lied to. Social Security showed the nation where the GOP interests lie, and, trying to steal your pension makes you sit up and think a little.

Well, at least everyone bu Lush thinks a little.

I don't know how the idiot can fill his time slot, ignoring all the imperialists. They have little good news to discuss, with shrub's numbers in the toilet.

Rush Limbaugh Plumbs New Depth Of Perversion; Releases Gitmo T-shirt Line

Prison Planet | June 20 2005

OxyContin quaffing, Bush worshipping, torture apologist Rush Limbaugh has plumbed a new low in both sickness and inacurracy.

Limbaugh has been hawking a new line of caps, T-shirts and mugs that depict the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba as a holiday home.

The T-shirt above reads, "Your Tropical Retreat from the Stress of Jihad." Another reads, "I Got My Free Koran and Prayer Rug at G'itmo" and another, "My Mullah went to Club G'itmo and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt."

Limbaugh has been promoting the products on his radio show in an attempt to bolster the Bush administration's recent assertions that Camp X-Ray really is a nice place to stay, in the face of its critics calling for the camp's closure.

Recall, this is the same Rush Limbaugh who last year said the Abu Ghraib prison guards were "just having a good time" and "blowing off some steam." The official official US Army report into Abu Ghraib lists the activities that Limbaugh defines as harmless fun. They include;
