Can we please tell our Senators to stop trying to ban video games?

First Clinton rants about "Grand Theft Auto" and now Schumer is calling for an outright ban on a game that hasn't even been released yet.

There are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT things to be worrying about in America than freaking VIDEO GAMES that are intended for adults in the first place (most stores don't sell "M" rated games to children).

Calling for media bans is not a really great way to prove you're in favor of freedom of speech.

4. Now come on, I didn't say that.
I just think the priorities are skewed when Democratic Senators are worrying about video games that are meant for adults.

7. Well, you might want to tone down calling Dems "Nazis"
At least around here. No one is above criticism, but let's be realistic.

8. Fuck that.
Banning a video game is the moral equivalent of burning a book.

I'm upset more people aren't outraged about this. It's like apologizing for the Patriot Act and saying, "oh, well it's only the terrorists that have to worry." It's a violation of the Constitution and it's a liberal's responsibility to get upset.

9. The "ban video games" movement is a hollywood manufactured lobby.
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 12:30 PM by aden_nak
Why? Because the traditional entertainment industry knows it is losing its favorite market, 18-25 year old males, to a medium over which they have no control. Those coveted 18-25 year old males, who will buy anything with boobs and booze on it, who will charge stupid amounts of cash on their credit cards, and who can by placated simply by having a swimsuit model run across the screen, are a dwindling demographic. And they don't like it.

And yes, that's a pet issue of mine. http://rants.adennak.com/games.html

10. Doubt it.
I don't think Hollywood wants an pro-censorship anti-violence movement. I think it's all conservative Christians and schiester lawyers.

12. Isn't banning a video game before it comes out
a prior restraint of free speech? Clearly unconstitutional.

Schumer should study up a bit on constitutional law.
