"He supports the Dems on most issues" Posted by LynneSin just not the few that stir up the most passion here at DU"
he obviously stirs up little passion anywhere else as well. I don't want a borscht belt comedian for pres. I want someone who stands for something other than Bush lite-ism.
Also, LIEberman's support of Lynne Cheney's group that wants to censor academics SO does not sit well with me. As a Jew he should know that it is not good policy to censor anyone, particularly academics.

24. Right. He supports us on big things like motherhood and apple pie. |
|
But he opposes us and supports His Shrubness on minor details like whether or not to give His Heinous a blank check to go to war unilaterally on the basis of doctored-up propaganda.
I have no respect for this bum at all.

Joe called Bush's U N speeech an "eleventh hour conversion" and "too little, too late...."
Words that could be used to describe any serious criticism of Bush from Lieberman on the Iraq fiasco and/or UN relations.
(Correct me if I'm wrong -- seriously, correct me, I know too much news flies on this board for me to catch everything -- but I don't think Joe is even in the Kerryesque "Oh we were fooled, we thought Bush would gentlemanly wait for proof and UN assistance without being required by us to do so" camp. My impression is that he's held the war is justified, period, regardless of any proof of imminent threat or WMDs.)

I mean, to say gw had a conversion, is more of a compliment of gw's present stance than a criticism of his past. Right? I did notice gw was showing new respect for the UN, verbally anyhow, but I didn't really buy it. It seems like Joe is saying he bought it.

14. Sorry, but Lieberman's been slamming Bush for three years |
|
He's criticized Bush's economic policies, environmental policies, energy policies, civil rights policies. And he's been very critical of Bush's policies with regards to post-war Iraq. Anyone who's bothered to actually listen to or read the text of Lieberman's speeches would already know this.
The full text of Lieberman's statement regarding the Bush UN speech can be found on his campaign web site.

I am somewhat sympathetic to your arguments but Joe Lieberman's demeanor and sometimes shrill rhetoric makes him look much more conservative than he is....
Also, JFK was a much more secular figure...

25. LIEberman's conversion is too little, too late. |
|
He's been running the DLC for the past few years and urging us all to become more like Republicans. Now, suddenly, the right wing he's been in bed with is no longer so popular. Now he begins quickly paddling to the other side of the stream. He's a loser. He's got nothing. He's finished.

19. This may be LIEberman's teshuvah (pennance) before Yom Kippur |
|
During the High Holy Days we are mandated to go to those we have harmed and try to make amends. Perhaps LIEberman is trying to come back to the Dems (a party he abandoned in favor of Bush Lite-ism) and make amends.
I live in Missouri and one speech by LIEberman wont do it for me. I need to see more of him bashing Bush and not other Dems.

20. Lieberman concentrates on domestic policy attacks.... |
|
he is there waving the flag for Bush on Iraq and Afghanistan - one of the lily livered congresspersons. If not lily-livered, then he has no vision for consequences or he just asks questions and doesn't process the answers.
A test for him will happen when the cabal moves on Iran or Cuba.

I'm in no way, shape or form a Lieberman supporter but I have to give a little credit to him. I was shocked watching the debates when I heard Joe say a lot more nasty things about Bush than some of the people who were billed as the "BIG Bush bashers"---that's why I thought I might be watching something different than what others said they saw. And secondly, go check some of his numbers. This isn't a Mosley-Braun at all. In fact, the Newsweek poll had him tied at 12% with Dean. I've been shocked at a lot of polls because he seems to be popular in certain parts of the country----like the South (go figure).
