over two years ago as a supporter of the effort, believe it or not -
I was as happy as anyone to see Saddam blown off the face of the
Earth at the time because I believed he was such a threat.
I first became critical when the WMD weren't showing up like we'd
been promised, when we were still focused on fighting (instead of
rebuilding) months after major combat operations had ended. And like
a snowball rolling down a mountainside, my criticisms became bigger
and much more serious.
Today, I am a full-fledged critic of the war and support a pull-out
of all of our troops as quickly as possible.
You ask - what would the Middle East look like if we'd not gone to
war in March of 2003? I say it would look a lot like it did in March
of 2002, or March of 2001, with a few significant differences. The
major difference would be that Afghanistan would not be a full-
fledged narcotics-state ruled outside of Kabul by warlords and
former Taliban, but rather the shining beacon of democracy that
President Bush claims Iraq is one day going to be.>
