Did Paul Martin not STAND NEXT TO BONO and say....
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 04:09 PM by HEyHEY
He, without a doubt, would commit .7 per cent of the GDP to developing nations? That fucker lied to Bono!

Prime Minister Martin has answered criticism from Live 8 promoter Bob Geldof.
The concert organizer says Martin must do more for the Third World or stay away from next month's G-8 summit.
The P-M says he supports the goal of rich countries giving 0.7 per cent of their G-D-P to foreign aid.
But Martin told the Commons he's not prepared to make a commitment the government may not be able to keep. (14)

Seriously though, this was obviously a blatant fucking lie. He said he would... flat out promised it.

EDIT: I'm sick of Bono running this country though.

1. Geldof has no business telling Martin to stay away from the G-8 Summit
It's not like the other nations are doing that much better.

BUT, Martin used Bono to look 'cool' and caring. I know I'm being a bit Pollyannaish here, but politicians shouldn't make promises they have no intention of keeping.

If memory serves, we've had budget surpluses for the last SEVERAL years - Canada should be doing more.

2. I agree, we should be doing more..
Martin should be at the summit bringing more to the table than he is, imo.

** promises $$$$$, but Tom Delay refuses to bring it to the floor, so all of the promises are unfunded....and I REALLY don't believe that Delay can do that without the nod from**

So when Bono, and Geldolf, sing **'s praises I just whince....

on edit: The only one really doing something is Clinton with his foundation, getting cheaper meds and ensuring shipment of meds to where they are needed...
