Newspaper Campaign in Alaska Targets Singer Steve Earle
NEW YORK Two full-page ads, and a flurry of letters to the editor, have not halted a concert at the Southeast Alaska State Fair by alt-country star (and outspoken political activist) Steve Earle.

Local critics call Earle's lyrics un-American, even communistic. Some have said he doesn't fit into the family fair in Haines, and call for a boycott.

Another fine example of Repuke's freedom of speech. We disagree, so let's boycott the fair. Morans

1. Ain't it great living in this great democracy, with all our freedoms?
We are such a wonderful example for all those other countries around the world that should aspire to follow in our footsteps.

2. "communistic" -- are you kidding me?
Did I step in the way-back machine? How long does it take for news to get to Alaska. SOmeone needs to let them know that folks stopped worrying about Commies about a decade ago. Wasn't that a Commie visiting chimpy today?

4. Some wingnut on C-Span said this
on washington Journal this morning:

"Democrats don't support freedom, we should centure them when they talk bad about Pres. Bush, we cannot allow this to continue"

WTF??? are these people serious?

6. So you are against boycotts?
People here disagree with some company's politics so they boycott them. I boycott Wal-Mart because they are pure evil. Gotta problem with that?

10. I boycott Walmart because I don't like the company's policies.
I don't boycott a local business because they carry a product made by a company whose policies I don't like, I just don't buy that product. Do you see the difference?

11. You've got a point
If I were in Alaska and going to this concert, I wouldn't want to share the crowd with the sorts of assholes that would boycott the concert. Granted these folks wouldn't be attending the concert anyway, yeah? This resembles the anti-France boycott.

13. I've noticed something about you
You're really good at playing devil's advocate on many issues. You seem uncannily adept at arguing a right-wing point of view. For illustrative purposes only, I'm sure.

Have a nice day, officer.

16. What points of view are those?
Is this another drive by attack or do you have something to backup your attack.

Maybe my post was not clear but I support boycotts and people's right to do so. I think it is hypocritical to say one group is wrong for doing something but it is perfectly alright for another group to do the same thing. Guess I am stange....

Hmmm, How is that a right wing point of view? Sounds like free speech to me.

Local critics call Earle's lyrics un-American, even communistic.

Those who don't know history, are destined to repeat it.
