WE CAN'T CAVE: CNN reports GOP forcing Durbin to apologize is part of
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 05:42 PM by smartvoter
a larger strategy that they privately say will be aimed at Pelosi and Dean to make them apologize as well.

Just saw it reported on Dobbs.

We cannot cave to these bastards.

On Edit: Support letters to Pelosi and Dean are in order...

3. Durbin did NOT apologize or take back his statements.
Dean has never done so either and the only thing Durbin said was to comfort those offended by the holocaust. Remember Fox News? They take everything they can out of context..

4. Perception is reality. GOP insisted he apologize on Senate floor, and it
is viewed as an apology.

8. He said that he was sorry....
For offending the holocaust survivors and those have endured these terrible times, and suggesting the troops behaved in this fashion.

He stated nothing else on the floor.....So someone's ripping it apart for soundbytes....

9. OMG. If the shoe fits ... Torture is torture regardless of the uniform.
He shouldn't have given them an inch.

Holocaust survivors do need to be remembered ... always, but one of the best ways we can honor them is not to allow ourselves to become monsters under any circumstances.

11. But he did not apologize to them.
He said that it was improper to relate it to the Holocaust and the troops, but did not apologize for the leadership's position.

He has never apologized for the things Donald Rumsfeld and his advisors did. Fox News is just ripping it up to take anything they can get, and the point isn't about Durbin. It's about Guantanamo becoming a cesspool of horror and should immediately be closed down.

14. I am glad he didn't apologize, but I expect it will be considered one.
I would have simply said, I'm sorry this administration has allowed our military to become that which we supposedly oppose.

26. Hey, you may be on to something there. Don't tell the people out here
at DU what the situation is and how it's being spun by the other side.

That will really take us far.

Thanks for the fantastic advice.

10. Bush had better be apologizing for all his filthy lies
He makes up lies to start a war, is responsible for 1700 plus soldier's deaths, thousands of civilian lives, maiming of thousands of our military, the tanking of our economy, stripping away of civil rights, and that's just the tip of the iceberg; and the republicans are demanding an apology from Durbin for telling the truth? Yes they are self serving rats.

13. I bet you 10 to 1 Dean won't apologize!
He'll call 'em bigger bastards than before. Makes me wish we could clone Dean--make a couple thousand Deans--the GOP would be dust in no time.

Pelosi--eh, who knows what she'll do.

Are they threatening violence? Do they threaten retribution, physical or political? Do they threaten to take away any remnants of Free Speech that are left in this country?

:sarcasm: Why, thats SO NAZI! :sarcasm: Hypocritical Pricks and Prickettes....

21. In My Wettest Dream
Howard Dean calls a press conference, with film cameras, and utters,

"I will apologize for my remarks when Dick Cheney tells the American people it was wrong of him to say to Pat Leahy, 'go fuck yourself' on the Senate floor."

Right?
