A WAR WAGED BY LIARS AND MORONS. A must read from Paul Craig Roberts.
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 06:04 PM by KlatooBNikto
Subtitled WHAT IS BUSH"S AGENDA IN IRAQ?, Roberts, a former assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration, completely dismantles the entire reasoning for the war on Iraq.He comes to the conclusion that even Bush is unaware of the reason for the war because he cannot explain the reason to us.

Link: http://www.counterpunch.com/roberts06212005.html/

At each and every step in the war he has clearly deceived everyone. No wonder he now feels besieged by the disclosures of the Downing Street Minutes.

As usual Roberts is merciless in exposing the entire cabal for what it has done to our democracy and our solvency. He, along with Paul Krugman, are priceless assets for those of us who want some semblance of normalcy to return to our public life.

3. Thank you for posting

In print and on TV, Bush's neocons have made clear their desire to see the US at war with the entire Muslim world: Today Iraq, tomorrow the Middle East. That the neocons believe the US can win such a war when the US cannot even occupy Baghdad or control the road to the airport indicates a frightening insanity at the center of the Bush administration and a criminal disregard for the lives of Americans and Muslims.

5. Not one Republican and/or neoCon has ever apologized
The neocons assured Americans that the war in Iraq would be a cakewalk over in three weeks!

The neocons told us that only 70,000 troops were needed to bring Iraq to heel!

Neocons fired the top generals who had truthfully told Congress that several hundred thousand troops, at least, would be needed!

Neocons told Congress that Iraqi oil would pay for the invasion and that America did not have to worry about the cost! So far that is a $300 billion mistake.

And Bush has retained and promoted these morons!

No one has been held accountable for this enormous disaster.

"America's Reputation in Tatters"

Well, it is a must-read.

Also check out Roberts' Bio (at the bottom of the page linked below) after you read the following article (or just do a google search).

This man illustrates better than anyone just how far afield this administration has taken the Republican Party and our country.

15. Should we really assume Congress is so incredibly ignorant + gullible?
Congress gave Bush the go-ahead for the invasion because Congress trusted Bush and believed his word that Iraq had fearsome weapons that would be unleashed on America unless we preempted Saddam Hussein's attack by striking first.

That guy should be on every single major news show, blasting this information to the entire nation.

Most republicans are hesitant to listen to democrats, they think we are going on against this war because we hate Bush (yes they are morons). The only thing that's getting their attention is when the republicans speak out.

20. Heres the Real Reason - White House Oil Since 1911
White House Oil Industry Since 1911

The American Oil Industry 1870-1999:

On January 10, 1870, John D. Rockefeller formed Standard Oil Company of Ohio by buying up oil competition and further consolidating oil refining into his company. By 1890, Standard Oil controlled 90% interest in American oil flows leading congress to pass the Sherman Antitrust Act. The Sherman Antitrust Act eventually brought Standard Oil into question and by 1892, the Ohio Attorney General sued Standard for its monopoly and aggressive business practices. Eventually after many years of further, disregarding antitrust laws and conducting questionable business Standard Oil was broke up by The United States Supreme Court on May 15, 1911. This division forced Standard to be subdivided into seven sister companies, which were much smaller and regionally limited. This break up later gave birth to Standard Oil of New Jersy (ESSO), Royal Dutch Shell (SHELL), British Petroleum Amoco (BP,AMOCO), Standard Oil of New York (SOCONY – Exxon Mobile), Texas Oil Company (TEXACO), Standard Oil of California (SOCAL-CHEVRON) and Gulf Oil. See Ref:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Sisters_%28oil_companies%29

After the 1911 Standard Oil breakup and formation of the Seven Sisters (SOCAL) Mr. Charles R. Crane of Chicago, ILL became very interested in securing possible American oil exploration interests in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Crane was a very wealthy businessman and philanthropist whom had knowledge and political ties to Middle Eastern Arabs. In 1912, he contributed a very hefty contribution to President Woodrow Wilson’s campaign thus gaining him a 1917 official diplomatic concession. Thru American, Saudi diplomacy Mr. Crane gained access to the Saudi Royal Family House of Sa’ud. Thru this political connection, Crane became acquainted with St. John Philby whom was the royal advisor. Crane being a very wealthy philanthropist and self-financed diplomat hoped to secure first explorations for Saudi Arabian oil by American oil companies. In 1931, St. John Philby advisor to Saudi Royal Ibn Sa’ud (Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman ibn Faisal Al Sa’ud) invited Mr. Crane to Jeddah a city in western Saudi Arabia to facilitate concessions for exploration of the royal kingdoms subsoil assets. Oil companies with part ownership in Iraq, were previously blocked by the Red Line Agreement so SOCAL (Standard Oil of California) gained a concession to explore Saudi subsoil assets and later discovered oil in Bahrain in 1932. With the oil discovery in Bahrain SOCAL then sought a concession in Saudi Arabia in May of 1933.

On May 29, 1933 (4 Safar 1352H) thru Mr. Cranes diplomacy with Philby and Ibn Sa’ud (Saudi royal monarch) oil concessions were secured for American interests. The American-Arab concessionary agreement thus formed a Saudi, American conglomerate formed with the American owned Standard Oil of California (SOCAL-Chevron now). Soon SOCAL passed the concessionary oil agreement to CASOC (California-Arabian Standard Oil Company). After roughly three years (1936) of exploration, Texas Oil Company (TEXACO) purchased half the concessionary oil agreement gaining 50% of CASOC concessions forming CALTEX providing market facilities for crude oil. CALTEX was a conglomerate company operated by CASOC and TEXACO (later 1944-ARAMCO). Oil was discovered in Dhahran (1938) leading to the first joint commercially owned oil field in Saudi Arabia which extended the original concessionary agreement. One year later (1939), IPC (Iraq Petroleum Company) established Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company Ltd. (ADPC) to maintain the Abu Dhabi concession.

By January 1944, with new developments on the horizon CASOC and TEXACO changed its name to the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO). Later Standard Oil of New Jersey (EXXON) and Socony Vacuum (MOBIL) acquired shares in ARAMCO. Standard Oil of New Jersey and Texaco acquired 30% share and Socony Vacuum acquired 10% share. Between 1957 and 1979, Mobil increased its share to 15%. Pacific Western Oil Corporation a holding company for Edward L. Doherty was granted a 60-year concession for Saudi half interests in the offshore area the Neutral Zone (1386H 1949) which was later transferred and controlled by Getty Oil Company (J. Paul Getty) giving way to Getty Western Pacific Oil and the 1953 oil discovery at al-Wafra. In 1949, Saudi Arabia joint ventures construct the Trans Arabian Pipeline (Tap-line) to extend from South of Kuwait, into Syria, Jordan and Lebanon where it reaches the western Mediterranean export terminal (See ARAMCO Trans Arabian Pipeline). Later in 1959, Getty Oil struck a deal with a US company (AMINOIL) working in the Neutral Zone for the Kuwaiti Government (see IOP consortium).

In 1984, the Getty Oil Company and franchise was acquired by TEXACO. From around 1954, the previous Oil companies listed were part of Iranian Oil Participants Ltd. (IOP) a consortium securing oil production in Iran. Thru commercial oil, and production establishments in the region the first oil tanker exported oil in 1955. Thru the 1990’s National Iranian Oil Company exported 200,000 barrels a day from Bahrain, Qatar and Abu Dhabi refineries ending embargoes established during the Iran-Iraq War. By 1998, the CALTEX market was expanded thru a Shell Oil Co (Royal Dutch/Shell Group), Texaco and Saudi Aramco joint venture combining their eastern U.S. refining and marketing assets under the name Motiva Enterprises LLC. The Shell and Texaco joint venture under the name Equilon Enterprises LLC for their Midwest, Southwest and West Coast downstream assets; provided for Shell to own 35% of Houston-based Motiva, while Texaco and Aramco will each own 32.5%. The oil industry in America being long established maintains a vested interested thru American oil companies and our government supporting a demand and supply chain of Middle Eastern oil assets.

Standard Oil and Dresser Industries:
Around the time of Standard Oils breakup (1911) and the formation of the Seven Sisters of the Oil Industry Solomon Robert Dresser (served on the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses March 4, 1903-March 3, 1907) of Dresser Industries dies (January 21, 1911). Dresser developed and sold drilling, natural gas and pipeline equipment as well as his own invention called the Dresser Cap Packer. The packer aided drillers in keeping oil and water, separated underground. In 1928 following Dressers death his family sold Dresser Industries a multinational company to the Wall Street investment firm W.A Harriman and Company Incorporated. W.A Harriman was one of two sons of railroad baron E.H Harriman (Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads). Dresser Industries later merged with Halliburton Energy Services of Huston Texas in 1998.

W.A Harriman & Company WWII History:
W.A Harriman & Company had financial stakes with his brother E.R Harriman and the Union Baking Corporation (Bush-Harriman UBC) whom during World War II managed forbidden U.S trade investments (Trading With the Enemy Act) between German (Fritz Thyssen) and American investment and Law establishments of New York City (W.A. Harriman, Prescott Bush, Knight Woolley and Allen Dulles). The UBC was conducting forbidden business with the German Steel Trust as well as illegally transferring aviation fuel technology. The UBC under W.A Harriman & Company (E. Roland Harriman, George Herbert Walker President and son-in-law Prescott Bush on the Board of Directors) was seized (October 20, 1942) by the American Congress resulting in asset liquidation. W.A Harriman was U.S ambassador to the Soviet Union and Britain (1943-46), governor of New York from 1955-59 and later an American ambassador for the Kennedy administration and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Refer to U.S. National Archives: Order #248 Seizure of UBC (October 20, 1942) by U.S. Alien Property Custodian Leo T. Crowley

ARAMCO Trans Arabian Pipeline (tap-line):
Under W.A Harriman’s management, Dresser Industries Company founded its headquarters in Dallas Texas. W.A Harriman served under F.D.R as a special envoy to Europe and later US Secretary of Commerce under Pres. Harry Truman. Around 1946-50 an ARAMCO joint oil venture began surveying Lebanon and the Persian Gulf for construction of the Trans Arabian Pipeline (tap-line). This joint venture pipeline afforded Standard Oil of New Jersey (ESSO), Standard Oil of California (SOCAL-Chevron), The Texas Company (TEXACO) and Socony-Vacuum Oil Company (Mobil) a solution to exporting Saudi Arabian oil. The tap-line today runs from the Persian Gulf fields near Kuwait to the far eastern terminal near Sidon, Lebanon on the Mediterranean, where tankers from Europe and the eastern United States can export oil.
Due to Syrian objections to tap-line “right of way” over the Golan Heights, the American government and CIA executed a coup (1949) to guarantee successful passage into the area (Zahrani near Sidon, Lebanon). In 1967, the Syrian and Lebanese portion of the line ceased due to political unrest, sabotage and the 1967 occupation by Israel. Today the Lebanese government maintains this portion of the tap-line near the Sidon, Lebanon storage and export terminal.

W.A Harriman & Company, Abadan and the Iran Hostage Crisis:
During July 1951, Harriman mediated between Persia and Britain over Persian nationalization of the British owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). Iranian attempts at seizure of control of British-owned AIOC by Dr.Mohammed Mossadegh later lead to the Abadan Crisis. The Abadan Crisis was an attempt by Mohammed Mossadegh to expel Western (U.S and British) companies (BP and Shell) from Iran. In response to this crisis (Operation Ajax TP-AJAX) U.K and U.S, officials under Pres. Eisenhower (‘IKE”) and Winston Churchill orchestrated a CIA coup to overthrow the democratically elected Mohammed Mossadegh. The CIA and SIS sought to restore exiled U.S and British friendly Shaw Mohammed Reza Pahlavi to power. This U.K and U.S directed coup (TP-AJAX) and covert U.S. CIA and U.K SIS operation was orchestrated to prevent possible socialist control over Iranian privatized AIOC. The results of the joint coup effort afforded Western Oil companies serving U.S and U.K interests to regain its investment under the British Petroleum Company (BP Amoco). With Iran’s great oil driven wealth Mohammed Reza became one of the most powerful Shaw’s in the Middle East and the guardian of Persian Gulf Oil. However, restoring Western Oil friendly interests in the region combined with the restoration of the exiled Shaw of Iran later lead to the 1979 Iranian - Islamic Revolution. This revolution further isolated Iranian interests by the formation of the Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Khomeini whom later provoked the Iran Hostage Crisis.

Persian Gulf War (Iran-Iraq War):
Shortly after the U.S and U.K involvement in Iran (Abadan) and the later establishment of the Islamic Republic (September 20, 1980 – August 20, 1988) formed by exiled Ayatollah Khomeini returning from France the Republic of Iraq under the control of revolutionary Ba’ath Party member Saddam Hussein (1979-2003) invaded Iran (September 22, 1980). Faced with escalating U.S Middle Eastern policy dilemmas on which faction to support while upholding Western oil interests (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait) President Ronald Regan along with Middle Eastern Military intelligence advisor Donald Rumsfeld implemented further U.S policy which assumed the lesser of two evils (Saddam vrs. Ayatollah). The Regan administration’s (Realpolitikars in Washington – Politics of Reality) mainly sided with Iraq’s Saddam Hussein whom was more authoritarian than the Islamic fundamentalist Ayatollah Khomeini. With current investments in mind (the Seven Sisters) America could not afford secular governments control over long-term Middle Eastern assets. America decided to provide Saddam with practical use technologies (computers, aircraft and chemicals) as well as funds to utilize against Islamic enemies. A vast majority of American companies eagerly fed the Iraq war machine until the Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait (August 1990) while previous administration policy further supported Iran Contras.

Iran-Contra Affair and Hostage Crisis:
In 1985, President Regan in response to the Iranian Hostage Crisis signed a secret presidential finding dubbed “arms-for-hostages” which would guarantee the delivery of weapons (18 surface-to-air-missiles) from Israel in exchange for the American Hostages being held in Lebanon. In 1986 during the Regan, “arms-for-hostages” deal a plan was proposed by Michael Ledeen, providing an intermediary, would sell arms to Iran in exchange for the release of the hostages the proceeds of which would become available to the Contras. Proceeds from the arms sales maintained by an arrangement instituted by Colonel Oliver North would purchase arms for the Nicaraguan Contras. The Contras were waging an insurgency against the Sandanista government. The U.S Boland Amendment barred American funding to the Contras. In February 1985, President Regan’s State of the Union Address stated:

"We must not break faith with those who are risking their lives...on every continent, from Afghanistan to Nicaragua ... to defy Soviet aggression and secure rights which have been ours from birth. Support for freedom fighters is self-defense. (Mujihadeen group; the Taliban) "

In November 1986, reports of a downed airlift of guns over Nicaragua fueled the scandal forcing President Regan under pressure from the Democratic Congress to investigate the matter. Regan responded by appointing a special commission “The Tower Commission” headed by former Senator John Tower and former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie, former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft to serve as members to review the matter. The Tower Commission later implicated North, Poindexter, and Weinberger and argued that the president should have maintained better control of the National Security Council staff. In addition, the Contra freedom fighters (Savimbi's Unita and the Mujahadeen) received weapons and training from the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The Reagan administration was guilty of illegally providing covert financial assistance to the Contra freedom fighters in order to circumvent Congress, made possible by diversion of profits from weapons sales to Iran by North. Later on November 18, 1987 the U.S. Congress issued a final report attesting that the President bore "ultimate responsibility" for the wrongdoings by his administration which exhibited "secrecy, deception, and disdain for the law." On September 1989, the Atlanta based BNL was charged with illegally funding Iraqi chemical weapons work while relying mainly on U.S government guaranteed loans thus forming the Iraq-gate scandal.

Post War Petrograd’s (the Quest for Texas Oil and Military Contracts):
George Herbert Walker Bush (H.W) son of Prescott Bush (W.A Harriman & Company) became the 41st President of the United States on January 20, 1989. Previously George H.W Bush served as ambassador to the United Nations (1971–1973), director of the CIA (1976–1977) and Vice President during the Ronald Regan administration (1981-1989). In his previous and earlier political years, George H.W Bush entered conventional politics by running against Democratic Senator Ralph Yarborough. Bush’s political strategies included making issues of Ralph Yarborough's vote for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Bush called Yarborough an "extremist" and a "left wing demagogue" while Yarborough said Bush was a "carpetbagger" trying to buy a Senate seat "just as they would buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange". Later in 1966 and 1968, Bush was elected to the House of Representatives from the 7th District of Texas. Bush also served in a number of positions, including Chairman of the Republican National Committee, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, US Envoy to Communist China, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and board member of the Committee on the Present Danger. He was also the first Cabinet official to request that the president Nixon resign over the Watergate scandal. During his attendance at Yale University, Bush became a secret member of the Skull and Bones society in honor of Yale University’s Wall Street W.A Harriman & Company family tradition. H.W Bush along with former President Ronald Regan are honorary British Knights of the Order of the Bath (Tria iuncta in uno). The Sovereign of the Order of the Bath's senior member is the Great Master HRH the Prince of Wales.
George H.W Bush ventured into the highly speculative Texas oil exploration business after World War II with Dresser Industries and H. Neil Mallon (C.E.O). Later in 1988, Dresser acquired M.W Kellogg, which later merged into Halliburton Energy’s Kellogg, Brown and Root. M.W. Kellogg was an engineering subsidiary; (Kellogg, Brown and Root) combined with Halliburton Energy Services whose list of former CEO’s include Dick Cheney. Kellogg, Brown and Root is an American Texas owned engineering and construction company and private military contractor (Halliburton Subsidiary) going back to the Vietnam War and the Lyndon B. Johnson 1963-68 presidency. Herman Brown was a well-documented friend and contributor to Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1948 senate race.

Regan-Bush Administration 1987-89:
With Regan’s escalating policies and sanctions (Economic reduction of technology and oil resources including clandestine support for anti-Soviet Mujahideen factions from Afghanistan and Contra’s in Nicaragua– Regan Doctrine) against the Soviet Union (The Cold War) combined with the depressed global price of crude oil in the region further set the stage for Soviet Communist Party collapse and eventual U.S-Soviet strategic partnership. On February 26 1987, President Ronald Regan and Vice President George H. W. Bush received the official conclusion from the Tower Commission’s investigations into the Iran Contra-Affair. The tower commission indicated that the administration should have better control of national security staff members. On March 16 1988, Oliver North and John Poindexter were indicted on multiple charges. Later Poindexter was convicted on several felony counts of lying to Congress, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and altering and destroying documents pertinent to the investigation. North and Poindexter’s convictions however were overturned on appeal on grounds of 5th Amendment violations.

Iraq Invasion of Kuwait (1989-90) and Regan-Bush Soviet policy:
After further Soviet power disruption thru President Regan’s staunch anti-Soviet sanctions the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan ended in 1989 entitling Osama Bin Laden as a Mujahideen hero in
Saudi Arabia. By late 1989, Mikhail Gorbachev’s socialist Glasnost (openness policy of the restructuring communist economy) was out of control and the communist party found themselves fighting a democratic loosing battle with the Russian media. President Regan further ordered Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall!" and to open his political doors to democracy. The Berlin Wall fell in November 1989 as communist rule weakened economically further collapsing Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe resulting in Gorbachev's easing of Soviet political repression. After Kuwait was allied with Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War (Iraqi protection from Shiite Iran), Kuwait was invaded and annexed by Iraq in August 1990. Saddam Hussein justified his invasion because he charged that Kuwaiti territory was in fact an Iraqi province, and Iraqi annexation was necessary for "economic warfare" and retaliation. Previously Kuwait a British Protectorate had waged insurgence through slant drilling into Iraq's oil supplies. The Kuwaiti monarchy was deposed of after annexation by Iraq and was under Saddam’s governmental control.

1990-91 Gulf War and George H.W Bush:
With the new installment of the 41st president of the United States, Middle Eastern policies shifted from Regan’s supply side economic theories ("voodoo economics" as labeled by George H.W Bush) to Bush’s non-Teflon and improved non-dictatorial nationalist perspectives. With renewed U.S and Russian political interests after the fall of the Berlin Wall (November 1989) Iraqi President Saddam Hussein concerned with Iraqi oils stakes maintained control over Saudi Arabian oil rich emirate Kuwait (August 1990). Although the U.S had previously supported Iraq in the War with Iran Washington Middle Eastern, policy makers advised that U.S and British companies and the military had too great an investment to further risk in the region. Faced with escalating U.S and British oil supply reductions Bush consulted with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher resulting in the implementation and passage of the United Nations Security Council resolution, giving Iraq a deadline to leave Kuwait and further approving the use of force if Saddam did not comply with a set timetable. In negations with Washington Saddam demanded separation of Israel from its occupied territories (West Bank, Golan Heights and Gaza Strip) furthering impacting Arab and Palestinian unrest.

Bin Laden Estate and the House of Sa’ud:
Osama Bin Laden was the 17th child of Saudi Noble Mohammed bin by Mohammed’s 10th wife.
Saudi Noble Mohammed Bin Laden (Saudi Royal Builder) was a wealthy investor, construction businessman and friend to Abdul Aziz Ibn Sa’ud, Saudi Arabian monarch during the 1933-38 ARAMCO-CASOC Saudi concessionary agreement. In 1964 Mohammed Bin Laden rescued the Saudi kingdom after economic mismanagement by Prince Faisal’s half brother by offering the new King (Faisal) financial assistance in return for a royal decree awarding all future construction projects to Mohammed Bin Laden's construction company. As a result, Bin Laden’s company amassed assets in excess of $5 billion USD making him the wealthiest non-royal family in the kingdom. The bin Laden family construction business held exclusive responsibility for restorations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the construction of the Miltary City near Riyadh (Kharaj). The bin Laden corporate network and later international company diversified its activities beyond construction to charter foreign investment and oil thru Mohammed Bin Laden’s family owned interests located in Huston Texas. After Mohammed’s premature and sudden death in 1968 (Osama being 11 years old) during a plane crash near San Antonio, Texas the bin Laden’s family business interests were managed by eldest son Salem bin Laden. Salem managed his families’ $16 billion investment portfolio renamed to, "Binladen Brothers for Contracting and Industry" which continued to expand Mohammed Bin Laden’s company until it employed more than 40,000 people. On July 8, 1976 with the "Binladen Brothers for Contracting and Industry" company expanding Salem bin Laden entrusted James R. Bath founder of Southwest Airport‘s Military Fueling Services at Ellington Field- EFD Huston, Texas and manager of Huston Gulf Airport to charter business. Bath was the president of Skyway Aircraft Leasing Company (Cayman Islands) whom leased Gulf Stream II bizjets to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the Persian Gulf’s seven Emirate U.A.E. Salem entrusted Bath to act on his behalf in all matters related to his Texas business interests including his Huston Gulf Airport. Ellington Field once had Continental Express service between Ellington Field and George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which ended on September 7, 2004. Ellington Field is home to the largest flying club in Texas and currently under the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure Program) of 2005.

James Bath later purchased Huston Gulf Airport in 1976 (chartering Texas Company Binladen Aviation) and later procured a loan (in 1990) of $1.4 million from a Saudi banker (Khalid bin Mahfouz) to afford him personal vested interests in the airport. In 1977, Bath on behalf of Salem bin Laden made a $50,000.00 investment into a Midland, Texas oil company by the name of Arbusto Energy. Arbusto Energy (in 1982) became known as Bush Exploration , a year after George H. W. Bush became Vice President. Philip Uzielli invested $1 million in 1982 in exchange for a 10% stake in the company. As Bush Exploration later neared financial collapse in September 1984, it merged with Spectrum 7 Energy Corp. William DeWitt and Mercer Reynolds (Spectrum 7 Energy Corp.) whom appointed George H. W. Bush Chairman and CEO owned spectrum 7. In 1985, Spectrum 7 reported a net loss of $1.5 million and was sold for $2.2 million (1986) to Harken Oil and Gas, with Bush joining the Harken board of directors and finance audit committee. In 1987, a Saudi investor Abdullah Taha Bakhsh bought most of Union Bank of Switzerland's shares of Harken becoming its third largest investor owning 17% of the company. Abdullah Taha Bakhsh (Saudi Oil Investor) was represented on the board by Talat M. Othman along with another investor Ghaith R. Pharaon who later became involved in the Bank of Credit and Commerce International scandal. In 1988, Salem bin Laden died when his aircraft crashed after hitting power lines near an airpark north of San Antonio, Texas granting Bath secured interest in the Huston Gulf Airfield with Khalid bin Mahfouz .
Bin Mahfouz (Saudi Banker) donated $270,000 to Osama bin Laden's Islamist Mujahideen organization (during the US-sponsored resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan) at the request of Osama's brother Salem bin Laden. Later in June of 1990, while interested in emirate Oil deals and after winning an offshore drilling contract in the Persian Gulf emirate of Bahrain (Abu Dhabi UAE). Bush sold his shares in Harken Oil and Gas to a Los Angeles broker Ralph D. Smith whom a week later sustained overall losses of $23.2 million triggering an SEC investigation into the sale.

Iraq and Osama’s Bin Laden’s strategy:
While Iraq invaded, Kuwait Osama Bin Laden sought opportunities of defending Saudi Arabian government interests in the region. Bin Laden’s offer was rejected resulting in his public denouncement of Saudi Arabian government for their apparent lack of concern for the historically rich and sacred Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina. Bin Laden then responded that further dependence on the U.S. military could not allowed and demanded an end to the presence of foreign military bases in the country automatically landing him special U.S attention as a renegade and Islamic militant. His brother-in-law, Mohammed Jamal Khalifa, thru Benevolence International then financed bin Laden. With new funds combined with support from Sudanese officials, Laden established a new base for Mujahideen operations in Sudan.

U.N Council Resolution to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait:
With the eventual non-compliance of Iraq to withdrawal from Kuwait due to Iraq’s dispute of Kuwait's right to be independent combined with Iraq’s oil stake and its economy the U.N Council Resolution enforced its deadline resulting in a U.S. led U.N coalition missile launch and aerial attacks on Iraq. Israel (January 16 1991), abdicated retaliation against Iraq in order not to provoke Arab states into coalition abandonment. U.S and British armored infantry divisions ejected Saddam's army from Kuwait on February 1991.

Later on March 6, 1991, George H.W Bush announced "What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea—a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law." With Bushes, new proposal of a new non-totalitarian and new world order combined with allied Turkey opposition to Kurdish independence the U.S further encouraged Iraqi revolt against Saddam. Thru U.S, designated allied oppositions forced Saudi conservative Arab states to fear an Iran-style Shi'ite revolution. This fear only served to further fuel and enable Muslim Sharia law "Allahu Akbar” and religious anti-West semantics by Saddam. Palestinian leaser Yassir Arafat (PLO) supported Iraq during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
Palestinian leader Arafat had around $1 billion with an investment portfolio in companies like a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Ramallah, and venture capital funds in the U.S. and the Cayman Islands.

With Iraq’s resistance to U.S, lead Operations Desert Storm (January 17, 1991) enforcing U.N Resolution 678 Iraq sustained surmountable damage to its air force and Surface-to-Air missiles (SAM’s) while coalition forces utilized six aircraft carrier groups in the Persian Gulf which disabled key communication, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), electricity and oil refinery facilities. Two live nuclear reactors were also bombed, which was in violation of UN Resolution 45/52. On January 23, Iraq retaliated by dumping approximately 1 million tons of crude oil into the gulf and by launching missile attacks on coalition bases in Saudi Arabia and on Israel. On February 22, 1991, Iraq agreed to a Soviet-proposed cease-fire agreement. The agreement called for Iraq to withdraw troops within three weeks. The US lead coalition rejected the proposal and responded by reducing the Soviet-proposed cease-fire to a twenty-four hour period thus affording further U.S invasion dubbed Operation Desert Sabre. Saber utilized Marine ground forces to penetrate deep into Iraqi territory while neutralizing and securing Saddam’s military deserters. On February 26, Iraqi troops began setting fire to Kuwaiti oil fields as the Iraqi troops evacuated along the main Iraq-Kuwait highway. The fleeing Iraqi’s were bombed so extensively that the Iraq-Kuwait Highway was budded the Highway of Death. One hundred hours after the ground campaign started, President Bush declared a ceasefire stating that Kuwait had been liberated (February 27).

With growing U.S anticipation and concerns of Iraq, using chemical and biological weapons on its people and neighbors regime change became the focus. The Bush administration had previously set guidelines to avoid any U.S change of objectives during midstream operations. Thru this policy, it was concluded that any U.S policy of occupation would only further anger Arabs and other allies. Plans of a military ground war and further expansion in Baghdad resulting in dominate U.S rule in Iraq (dubbed Mission Creep) was scraped citing that it left us no viable exit strategy. The official U.S position then focused more on orchestrating an internal coup, using CIA assets in Iraq to organize a revolt against Saddam Hussein.
Economic sanctions were employed along with a consistent military presence in later operations, which served to only further damage the infrastructure of Iraq with electricity and water treatment facilities being negatively impacted. A United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) was formed to further over see the possible discovery and removal of Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). In 1997, Iraq expelled all US members of the inspection team, alleging that the United States was using the inspections as a front for espionage, which the U.S. later admitted was true.

US Marine Scott Ritter a weapons inspection member, resigned later in 1998, alleging that the United States was blocking the 1997 espionage investigations because the CIA was using the weapons inspection teams as a cover for covert operations inside Iraq. In 1999, the inspection team was replaced by a new team, which resumed inspections (in 2002) leading to the Iraq disarmament crisis, and the War on Terrorism.

Friday June 17, 2005 (German Point Alpha Prize Awarded)
Former U.S. President George Bush, one-time Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl reminisced like old friends Friday as they received an award for their role in ending Germany's Cold War division. Bush broke into laughter at the moderator's question about his response to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's remark that "two Germanies are better than one." Kohl needled him, saying: "She didn't let you get a word in edgewise, eh, George," as Gorbachev laughed along. But to see the three men - Bush introducing Gorbachev to the local German governor and Gorbachev whispering to Bush time and again during the ceremony - it was as if they were schoolmates at a reunion talking about the good old days. Gorbachev was asked what he thought of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan's 1987 challenge before divided Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" He said: "I knew that Reagan was an actor and that he was staging a very good show."

The 2003 invasion of Iraq, dubbed Operation Iraqi Freedom further seeking Iraqi WMD’s became evident after previously alleged allegations of CIA intelligence and possible espionage were made. By the end of January 2003 Chevron-Texaco reported Exploration and production earnings up 1.2 billion a 125% increase from previous year’s earnings.

George H. Bush and Operation Iraqi Freedom (the War on Terrorism):
During the Weekend of March 15-16 2003, Bush and Tony Blair met in the Portuguese Azores for an "emergency summit" resulting in the decision that "diplomacy had failed" to compel Iraq to comply with UN Resolution 1441 (Disarmament of Weapons of Mass Destruction). On March 20 2003, President George W. Bush in his Address to the Nation (addressing the Iraq Disarmament Crisis) demanded that Iraqi Saddam Hussein and his two sons Uday and Qusay leave Iraq, giving them a 48-hour deadline.
I must mention here the significance to the February 22, 1991 Soviet negotiated cease-fire and its three-week deadline reduced to a twenty-four hour period by the U.S coalition Operation Desert Sabre. U.S, U.K, and other allies then formed a coalition of forces and conducted Operation Telic and Operation Falconer with headquarters situated at CENTCOM in Qatar. Northern Iraq would also be utilized by entering from Turkey, tying down two Iraqi divisions. The invasion conducted without U.N Security approval provided for confrontation of Iraq’s Republican Guard and Fedayeem Saddam Malita thru evasive military maneuvers staged in Kuwait and Turkey.

Comparison and Contrast of Iraq, Iran and Kuwait (a Theory):
Previously during the Iran-Iraq War (1980’s) Iraq’s oil and economic strategy was to repay its $14 billion debt to Kuwait by raising the price of oil through OPEC via oil production cuts, but before this took place Kuwait increased production, lowering the price, in an attempt to leverage a better resolution of their border dispute. In addition, Kuwait had engaged in slant drilling for oil into Iraqi reserves and territory encroachment due to poorly defined borders thus compounding Saddam’s negative position. This would have further damaged Iraq’s economy and might be a true explanation for his evidential invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. Saddam would have also been in a great position to dampen Iran’s insurgency with chemical weapons thus protecting Arab oil interests. I am suspecting this due to Saddam’s involvement in the Regan Administration during the Iran-Iraq war and the Iraqi support of American allies in the region. I have always theorized that no foreign or domestic managed oil fields would be complete without the Iraqi share combined with the Hama oil fields. Saddam simply sought an opportunity for monopoly establishment in the region the idea of which would spawn fear among economically driven and oil dependant nations like the USA, Russia and Japan with long term investments prompting preemptive measures to become eminent and unavoidable. Part of the conflict in my opinion has to do with the earlier ARAMCO 1933 concession and later extension possibly reducing the Iraqi share. Abdullah I of Jordan was assassinated at Al-Aqas Mosque (July 20, 1951) for his dream of a Greater Syria and Israeli peace. King Hussein (Hussein bin Talal ) of Jordan and Saddam Hussein were siding together in the Gulf War possibly as a unified Arab nation defying Western interests. Hence, the reason for desired regime changes in Iraq and our current position today with the War on Terrorism and the insurgencies. If I am right, the current revolt in Iraq will not cease until the United State coalition forces remove all troops from the territory and honor previous concessionary agreements. I can never see Texas Oil as (Tria iuncta in uno) new world order without certain premature legal problems like monopolies, which are illegal in the USA. I do understand however, that oilmen must take a night’s bath once in awhile.

"What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea—a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law." – George H.W Bush
